Blinged - what about the DAB module? Do you happen to know if that can be strapped on? Hi Darling, I'll be home in 10 mins. If I'm not back, please read this message again...

Likewise, good write up Thumbs Up

But on the off topic side of it, if the OP didn't start off with the comments he did, then Junior jump on the band wagon, ad210358 wouldn't have needed to comment and obviously if he didn't somebody else would have:!:

Xtatsbox, the DABS radio add on can not easily be done. You need a radio which is capable to run DABS including the wiring as well as the DABS Control Box and then it would need configured. It's not impossible, just difficult. I've seen a few second hand DAB's units on Ebay and I've been tempted, but ultimately I am not sure I'd manage it. It's a bit like trying to add a LR Satnav system to a non Satnav car.

Another possible solution is to have a stand alone DABS radio connected to the Aux socket or replace the LR radio with a DABS ones, but then there could be a lot of problems as the radio is used as an interface for other functions like the clock etc.

As for the 'Banter' I qualified the first post because I didn't want to spend time on something that was inappropriate for the majority of the membership. It was not intended to set the tone of the subsequent conversation and I can't be held responsible for other peoples utterings, good or bad. That said, I am pleasently surprised to see the vast majority think like me. Anyway Npinks, you are a moderator, you cut out the off topic comments and everyone is happy.

With regards the sat nav retro fit....
There was a Sat nav screen, dvd rom and a stereo sold on Ebay this evening for £102

What would the cambus implications be and also the antenna/pulse sender sensor etc.?

AFAiAA you don't actually have to disconnect the battery, although most do,,this is well documented on the D3 site Thumbs Up

as well as fitting the buttons to the steering wheel the above tutorial also works for upgrading your steering wheel from the crappy plastic one to the smooth megan fox edition. Cool

don't bother buying the "specific"tool, wire coat hanger does it just fine.. Thumbs Up

Whilst you are right it can be done with out disconnecting the power, then it's a safety precaution and I'd advise people to do it even if I considered it unnecessary. Personally, I wouldn't want to take a chance on being the one in 1,000 something happened to.

As for a coat hanger tool, yes, a lot of people do this, but some complain it's not tensile enough to disengage the clip. I've got the proper tool, but it's just my preference.

Junior, the right wiring doesn't exist in the non Satnav versions of the FL2. Even if it did, you'd need a screen, a compatable radio to marry it to and a DVD player. Then as you say, there would be serious Cambus implications which wouldn't compromise. The Satnav ariel would connect and shouldn't provide a problem, after all it's merely providing the unit with digital information, nothing more. The pulse sender is a wiring issue and again would prove a fatal exception to the operation of the unit. It is far better to instal what Carnoch did in the Ultimate Satnav unit topic. I did it the same way and it really is the business, far, far better than the generic LR unit. It's not cheap mind you, by the time you have purchased everything it's 800 quid. People will always buy Satnav stuff off Ebay in the hope it will work in their vehicle. Truth is it won't.

and going on how much people moan about LR satnav,, it would make more sensible just stick a tomtom in the hole where the screen would be..

I've seen the same thing. Your previous post, regarding wiring already there, I guess is the same for most cars, they aren't going to make a special loom for each option, so we would have to assume that the wiring is there. The issue is and I think Alex put the hardware requirements somewhere, is whether all the hardware is there. The Ariel is. According to most it is the 3 bar Ariel in the drivers side rear window. I guess also that the car would require some programming.

As you say, the modules are often on ebay, just never found anyone who has fitted one.

I've got a Pure Highway, I just hate the screen mounts and to be honest would prefer something more "permanent".

The garage has quoted, ahem "over £ 1500.00" to do it. I read into that they could, but really couldn't be bothered. Thing is, do I want to spend £ 150.00 on a DAB module to find that it isn't going to work... Hi Darling, I'll be home in 10 mins. If I'm not back, please read this message again...

I would normally agree that all the wiring is there, the looms are standard, but the LR Satnav requires some special leads to connect into the back of the video unit etc. and I know they arn't there having pulled my car apart. It's the exception to the rule.

As for the DABS, you are right, until someone actually buys a unit to fit, no one is going to know for sure. I suppose if it didn't work you could sell it again, but then I know i'd have to be truthfull to the buyer and tell them it wont work with the model they have. It's a bit like cutting your own throat.

Thanks to all for the compliments re the post. I find with LR, it's all a bit mystic until someone explains it, then it's so simple, you wonder why you worried about it to start with.

Steering wheel, dead easy. I'll do a tutorial if I got a moment. All I'd say is to start with buy a decent tool set from Halfords or the like. I got a large Halfords Professional kit with case, lifetime warranty. It's excellent having things that work, good quality and all together. Gone are the days of spending half the days trying to find a tool you think you had or trying to adapt something.

Sent a message to the bloke selling it. I guess that he is something to do with a breakers yard as he has a fair number of bits. I'll wait and see what he comes back with. Could try LR UK but I fear that might be p Censored ing in a sponge... Hi Darling, I'll be home in 10 mins. If I'm not back, please read this message again...
