Wheel Change

I have the opportunity to purchase a set of 4 wheels from Ebay for £200. My tyres are very low on tread and its cheaper than purchasing 4 new tyres. The tyres have 6mm of tread, each.

My question is how simple is it to replace my R16 wheels with this set of R17s? Straight swap, balance, etc?

Cheers,

Steve

should be straight swap. you should notify your insurance. it has been said that your dealer should re-rest the dsc to account for different sized tyres.

I went from 17 to 18 with out any setting. all size wheels have the same rolling circumference At work

As CG has stated the larger the wheel the smaller the tyre

Never one to question your comments CG but if you line up a 17'' tyre/rim alongside an 18'' tyre/rim the 17'' is smaller in height by about 13mm, which will marginally affect the RR. Thumbs Up

put weight on the tyre/wheel roll it one revolution and measure the distance, rolling circ is not directly linked to unladen wheel height. every farmer knows this due to altering pressures in tractor tyres. At work

thats just LR economy . all the wheels work out to the same (similar) rolling circumstance

a random internet find

"The 235/65 R17 tyre will work as a spare for the 235/70 R16 and the 235/60 R18 tyres as the rolling radius of all three sizes is less than 1% different. Would also work, I believe for the lower spec models supplied without a spare."

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, you owe me a fiver. Thumbs Up

Wouldn't a 18" rim be 1" higher than a 17" rim????? 1" beeing 25,4mm...........That's when you line them up like you say. From center to top the difference will be 13mm, but the total height will always be 25,4 for 1" larger rims.
Correct?

I know George. It wasn't a comment to you, but a comment to mcphersonstrut claiming that a 18" rim is 13mm higher than a 17" rim.. Smile
