I agree that it is probably condensation caused by the dry air con air (relatively) hitting the humid atmosphere. I lived in St. Louis for a couple of years and having the car filled with water vapour when starting the motor was quite common during the summer. Mind you the temperature was 90 plus and humidity at 95%.

Thanks for your replies. Happened again on the way home today when external temp was 20 degrees C, so warm but not that hot. Think I will call dealer and ask them to check it. |

maybe aircon is cutting out for brief periods, turn your air con off on a warmish day and your windows soon steam up At work

An update, booked the car into dealers last week, they detected slight trace of gas so had to book in again this week for two days for investigation. They thought it was a leaking matrix? but when they changed and tested it the seals just blew out. They now think its a faulty compressor which is on back order, so the saga goes on. |

An update, aircon compressor has now been changed and system appears to be working ok. No vapour so far, so fingers crossed they have sorted the problem. |

Switched the air con on for the first time this year at the weekend and both my wife and I were almost overcome by the smell, switched off air con and opened the windows and the smell dispersed. Tried it agin the next day and same thing happened (Almost lost my voice as a result). Car was going into dealer today for B pillar trim replacement, so got them to check it. They could not find anything wrong, but have used a conditioner spray in an attempt to get rid of the smell. Drove home and to my mind they have just replaced a horrible smell with an unpleasant one. Has anyone else had this sort of problem? |

Had my car in for its 2 year service today and I also told them about a smell coming from the Aircon. It smells like the aircon gas is leaking. They checked it and found no problem but flushed it with some 'cleanser'. On the way home the smell was fresh (minty?!) and then I noticed that the dials were set to their coldest, after changing them to 18/19 I got a strong smell in the cabin ( like smelly feet!!) but it cleared after 5 miles or so...will have to keep an eye on it.

Been out for a drive today and no smells!.... The system flush cost 9.99 at Dealers and seems to have done the trick.
