"STEERING COLUMN LOCKED" ?? What does that mean??

This morning the message STEERING COLUMN LOCKED appeared in the display. What does that mean?
Turned the engine off and on again, and then the message disapeared. And the car worked normally.

But I do not understand what the message mean. Some troubles coming up, or what?
Anyone out there who can tell me what the message actually means? 2008 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Automatic, Caspian Blue, Alpaca, Moon roof, Exclusive pack.

it has a automatic lock, its the electric noise you hear when putting the keyfob in

it could have been that the wheels was turned and putting pressure on the locking mechanism, so you got a warning Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Sounds pretty spooky Shocked I would be tempted to get it checked, as if the steering really locked while driving could be a nasty experience.

Have had this really happen to me in another car that I was towing a long time ago so maybe I am over cautious about it happening again. 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Exactly that! Thumbs Up if there is sufficient 'backlash' on the steering to cause the locking pin to engage in one of the slots but not enough electrical force on the solenoid to release it against the metal-on-metal friction, this warning will be displayed. normally, moving the steering wheel slightly will allow it to release

STEERING COLUMN LOCK
The vehicle has an electronic steering column
lock that is deactivated when the remote
control is inserted in the docking port.
Note: It may be necessary to rotate the steering
wheel slightly to release the locking
mechanism. If the steering column lock does
not disengage the engine will not start and
STEERING COLUMN LOCKED will be displayed
in the message centre.

Handbook page 12.

Sad, I know, but I really did read the on-line version of the Owner's Handbook whilst waiting to take delivery of our Freelander.

Absolutely - which is why I said I read it online - as a web page.

Seriously, it's great to be able to search it electronically.
