Towing strap/strop recommendation

Hi all,

Don't wish to tread on the toes of any site sponsors, recommended sellers or tell you all something you already know, but recently bought an 8m, 5 ton rated looped towing strop with two 3 ton rated D rings.....£24 delivered next day. A lot better than the Halfrauds offerings just for having in the boot. You can spec your own length from the ratings available.

Only for emergencies, towing family/friends etc;

Hope this helps someone and no, not one jot of commercial interest or commission! Simply found whilst ebaying one insomnia filled evening!

Re: Towing strap/strop recommendation

I have a similar pair - run a 5m and a 10m. IIRC you are not allowed to tow a vehicle on the road with a rope longer than 4.5m.

Yep certainly is 4.5m.

Its pretty rural where i am with ditches/lanes, uphill single track lanes! So for the purpose of either someone pulling me out of trouble or vice versa.....8m stops me pranging them, or them pranging me!!

It's more a rescue strop (snow/water or ditch!), I'd be looking for a rigid bar setup for 'long' road tows.

The law does differentiate between towing, and recovering. So using a 8m strap to recover someone from a ditch etc would be perfectly OK. but you'd need to change straps if you then elect to tow them for any distance. Just as an A-frame is OK to recover a vehicle from a place of danger, but not acceptable to tow the same vehicle any futher.

Also be carful of these sites selling 14 tonne straps (on double) thats 7 tonne single, they are only 1 tonne strops with a 7:1 safety factor, its called a safety factor for a reason and if you use up your safety factor you could be in danger.
There "D" shackles are actualy Bow shackles - picky I know.

ps. note I said "could" not would be in danger FL2 07 TD4 GS Auto
