Have driven about 1000km so far, no problems yet but have noticed a band of yellowish discolouration about 5 inches wide on the rear exhaust silencer (the big part before it splits into the two tail pipes).

Anyone else noticed this?

I will try to get a picture over the next couple of days.

I to have had same problems developed mine at 500 miles in. Basic reason to me (advise it’s taken to dealer at time it happens) most twin exhaust systems have two continuous pipes running from engine (separately) to the back of the car. For some reason two pipes run from engine, then join into one large pipe until it hits the rear exhaust box, so all the exhaust pressures, meet at one point in the rear muffler before being expelled out the attractive but useless twin exhausts.

This creates a weak point in the rear box that eventually will give out creating a hole in the back box!!! Advise you at least point it out to landrover ASAP even if nothing is done at that point, else if you leave it 8-10 months until it actually becomes a hole proper they could dismiss it as being driver fault, thrashing the car too much etc etc..... this is not a driver, or wear and tare issue it is a obvious design fault and the only remedy is to make sure there are two separate pipe runs from engine until exhaust end!!! As twin tail pipes are normally designed!!!!

same here... noticed it long ago but wasn't sure if it's just carbon build-up in the exhaust...

yup the perpendicular style of the exhaust make's it possible for this discoloration

now i'm thinking of having an aftermarket exhaust or have them just painted with high temp paint.  Do Not Follow Me...You Can't Go Where I Go!!!

It sounds simply like some heat discolouration, and the only reason I would be worried is if it is visible when looking at the rear of the car, other than that it sounds pretty normal.

Do you pictures of the problem....I can then confirm if what I've said above is correct.

I have the yellowish discolouration on my back box but its an exhaust pipe it will discolour it does get hot you know.

Maybe you should wipe it!

Have you tried some Vaseline or KY? That should stop the heat build up!

Maybe its Thrush, Canesten cream is apparantly good for this. Npinks we are happy to help you on all your issues as you are amongst friends but do not try to disguise them as vehicular ones....just be honest

It is clearly visible from the rear of the vehicle and has started to blacken...

I will get some photos, so you guys can take a look.

But I've taken it back to the Dealer who have ordered me a new exhaust and will replace it under warranty!

wow, that will be a lot of warranty work - most all the LR2 ive seen, have burnt orange exhaust...humm guess I better call the dealer too

I have just put some photos of the exhaust box of my Freelander 2 HSE i6 - in the members gallery.

I don't think it's normal heat discolouration!

My old diesel FL2 with 13.5K on the clock, did not have this colouring

Carl I believe it's an i6 only problem, due to the twin exhaust.
