As for the zero finance, your right, the fact a dealer has to add 1k to the cash price shows you, you don't get nothing for nothing.

I, like a lot of people, a year and a half ago, managed a zero deal, and I accept I probably paid more for it than I could if I'd had cash.

Now, the time is coming up to think about paying the lump sum and keeping it or buying new. Yes, I'd have the equity, about 3k from the future assured value on the trade in price, but if I buy new, then in essence, I'd have to fork out 18k cash, even on these discounted prices. I think I'd rather have the money in the bank. If I change the car every two years, I might as well lease one!

In essence, I've taken the greatest fall in price. Keepimg it another year or two isn't going to hurt as much and as the car has less than 12k miles on it and looks in showroom condition, so what.

Some good thoughs there, id certainly agree with you about keeping yours now, you've taken the hit so enjoy it for at least another year otherwise you lose time and time again.

It could be the wrong time to buy just now. Wait until after the new registrations, when the scrappage has gone and when the goverment starts taxing the 4x4 a bit more. I think they are going up by 300 squid in April due to different taxation on new cars. And by that time most peoples memories of the winter, the snow and having to have a 4x4 are just distant memories. The fad will be open topped cars.

Seriously, the dealer got back to me. There is another 2k in the deal if I can transact before the end of January. That makes the cash price 21,750 for a new GS on the road with black paint and privacy. If I go for the zero percent 60/40 deal, then it shoots up 1,175. You dont get something for nothing. Madam still wants a better price all round. I dispair!

Best price so far is a GS including met. paint and privacy is 21,750 from LR Huddersfield. That price should be available into February, but it won't be until next week this can be confirmed.

This is for a cash deal, but includes part exchange, which is better than most.

If you want the balance at zero percent at the end of 2 years, add 1k. This is a Customer Support grant the dealer gets if it's cash. If it's credit, they don't. There appreas to be no way round it.

Basically, prices are all down to supply and demand. Last year the FL2 GS could be had for 19k as mentioned by another poster on this subject, I've had it confirmed by two other dealers. Now, it's a different kettle of fish and some demos are going for more than the new price.

Personally, I think it you leave it a few months, things will calm down again and the bargains will reappear. The changes in VAT, the vehicles first registration cost will have risen and the scrappage allowance will have ended. Demand will go down and then these extra costs will be absorbed by LR etc. Of course your part ex price will be down too, but perhaps not to the same degree. Just a point of view.

I've had one person PM me re prices, but thats it apart from posters on here. Unless we get our act together we are going to be paying well over the odds. To give you an example, a few dealers were over 3k more for the same car. If there is a point to all of this, it's shop round rather than go to the local dealer, who can afford to smile at you, send you a Crimbo card etc. I'd do that too if I were ripping you off to that degree and then hope people will say , 'Oh, it's the service that counts.' Come on, the cheapest here is probably quite a pleasent person too!

No, can't find out who that is, but I suspect a private person approahing that dealer would get a higher price than Drivethedeal. When I added it all up, there was only a whisker in it between that firm and Huddersfield, plus Drivethedeal don't seem to take part exchanges, rather refer you to an aution site to dispose of it.
