There's a much better option than using a roof mounted system, which in my experience can be a pain to load the bikes and remove the bike carrier. It also whistles on the motorway and you end up burning more fuel. I have a tow bar fitted (non LR) and when needed I attach a Thule bike rack to the bar. http://www.thule.com/Thule/ProductPage____83176.aspx

agreed the towbar mounted thule are very good I use one for our MTBs but we need to use roof mounted ones when towing, and we have to carry the tandem on the roof as well. |

I have the cross bars part LR002417 and bike carrier part LR006847 which does show a FL1 but is irrelevent as it's the cross bar fitting type your interested in. The bike carrier comes with the parts to fit the new (slotted) FL2 cross bars and the old style small square bars. See page 4 for the correct fitting type parts. The new type uses a square bolt which fits into the recess on the cross bar. When you mount the cross bars, remove the rubber inserts at the same time. Slide the square bolts into the slot and replace the end cap. |
