2009 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Zermatt Silver

The FL2 can tow upto 2000Kg's.. but I would only tow upto the vehicles
kerb weight..or 90% of it...

As far as I can see the US & UK FL2's have the same kerb weight.

Remember a UK pound is heavier than a US one

UK 16 oz to the pound

US 14 oz to the pound

I hope that's rigth !!!!!

United Kingdom 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Santorini Black

The UK definition of what can be towed is simply based on the vehicles' ability to restart on a 1:10 gradient with a trailer load attached, and has little to do with safety! In the UK the advice is to limit the trailer weight to the unladen weight (or mass in service) of the vehicle and preferably to only 85% of that figure. Now, my GS TD4 auto is 1970kg mis so that's the maximum I can tow.

The US towing limit may be restricted because of the engine type / power / transmission - which might be different in the US cf Europe. It may also be restricted due to limitations of the towing bracket (hitch) that is approved for fitting to the US FL2.

If LR US have a max towing weight figure, I assume you'd be in big trouble if caught exceeding this by the police whatever the actual ability of the FL2 to tow more.

BTW the US and UK pound is virtually identical (a difference of 1 part in 10 million, apparently, if Wikipedia is correct).

It could be down to temperatures. As far as I am aware, the LR2 for the US has the same specification for all states, of course some states are a damn site hotter than other states so maybe they have to conform for all?

I know in the UK, both the TD4 and 3.2 i6 have the same towing capabilities. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........
