Fitting Bike Carriers

Hi New on here. Hope someone can help!

I have a new Freelander 2 with Dealer fitted Roof Rails and I have just bought the land rover Cross Bar Kit and 2 Bike Carriers from Duckworths.

My problem that the fitting mechanism for the bike carriers is too small to wrap around the cross bar kit.

I thought the problem was that I had been sent LR006847 instead of VTG500050 but Dan from Duckworths said that VTG500050 has been superceeded by a new number which is LR006847. I have no reason not to believe him as he has been helpful in the past.

The problem is the manual for LR006847 is clearly showing a Freelander 1 and also has no instructions for fitting to freelander 2 cross bar kit.

I'm very confused - can anyone enlighten me or give me some advice of fitting these?

Thanks in advance!

Jon

I really like the look of the land rover cross bars compared to the thule ones.

They cross bars and bike carrier are genuine land rover accessories so surely they should work together.

There's a much better option than using a roof mounted system, which in my experience can be a pain to load the bikes and remove the bike carrier. It also whistles on the motorway and you end up burning more fuel. I have a tow bar fitted (non LR) and when needed I attach a Thule bike rack to the bar. http://www.thule.com/Thule/ProductPage____83176.aspx

I've been mountain biking for 15 yrs and it's the best option so far. Thule make some of the best rack systems also. My last one lasted 10 yrs, I only changed it when I changed car.

agreed the towbar mounted thule are very good I use one for our MTBs but we need to use roof mounted ones when towing, and we have to carry the tandem on the roof as well.

I have the cross bars part LR002417 and bike carrier part LR006847 which does show a FL1 but is irrelevent as it's the cross bar fitting type your interested in. The bike carrier comes with the parts to fit the new (slotted) FL2 cross bars and the old style small square bars. See page 4 for the correct fitting type parts. The new type uses a square bolt which fits into the recess on the cross bar. When you mount the cross bars, remove the rubber inserts at the same time. Slide the square bolts into the slot and replace the end cap. Very Happy

Bike carriers

HI,
Has anyone got a rear mounted bike/cycle carrier {not for towbar} as I have been looking on the net and most models have the warning that they dont recommend the use if they clip to glass or if you have a spoiler, which the HSE does.Got the bike on the roof today and nearly caused a lot of damage to the roof and my pride! If lifting the bikes is a problem you couldtry a hydraulic bike lift like the Altera
http://www.atera.de/en/30_Products/10_Car-...e-Lift.php
they take all the effort out of it and stop you damaging the car roof.
