Just bought a Freelander 2 SE with low Km, s..... It's not considered a true 4x4 in Africa purely because it lacks low range but for my purposes there is little to beat it. Had Subaru forester until recently and that did most of what I needed, the LR2 is going to be way better.... I tend to do most of my own maintenance hence will be looking to the forum for advice. |

After years of Mercedes saloon ownership, local potholes and my bad back made me want something with softer suspension and taller sidewall tyres.

Try and get the latest one you can 2012 onwards with a good service history as the youngest of these are 11 + years old make sure it has had the ten yr service I.E. cambelt water pump change, PTU oil and rear diff oil change, gearbox oil as well as the Haldex unit serviced also check the front and rear subframes for rust. Depending what your needs are the SD4 is quicker where as the TD4 is a bit slower but cheaper on insurance rd tax and fuel consumption (I get 45 mpg on a motorway run) 2013 FL2 XS. Defender 90 300 TDi. Defender 90 300 TDi CSW. 1964 MGB Roadster. 1944 Willys MB "Jeep" with bullet holes. (gone) 17 hand Irish Drought Thoroughbred (mostly lame) Nagging Old Boiler. Mahatma Gandhi said if there is an Idiot in power those who elected him are well represented. The Enemy is our own corrupt Government. |

My FL1 was a 2006 TD4 so would probably want a diesel.

Both the TD4 and SD4 have a cambelt, servicing is easy only tricky bit is the oil filter but if you have the correct swivel head 27mm spanner its not an issue, Haldex can? be awkward but if its been done recently should be ok for a couple of years, I am 70 still do all my own spannering getting under is ok but getting back up is sometimes a challenge ! 2013 FL2 XS.

Hi Martin, I want to post a message, but can't find where the 'new topic' icon is. Any idea as to how I do this?
