Does the FFRR with EPB use the same system as the FL2 ??

If shoes are mentioned in the FFRR descriptions then I suggest its a different system as the FL2 EPB system only uses disk brake pads. Jules

I really cant see why you'd need a separate bedding-in procedure for EPB pads when they would get bedded-in as per the normal process for changing rear pads.


Surely the electric motors for the EPB readjust to the new position (due to the thicker new pads and disk) when you exit SERVICE MODE. Jules

I dont know if that is a generic article in Topix or specific to a vehicle but judging by the pictures its not a FL2 they are describing.

Interesting topic. The EPB operates a solenoid onto one end of the Brake Pads, The FFRR has rear Shoes that need bedding in. Using the FL2 foot brake beds the pads in. I have had it all apart, and its not the same as the D4 either, I think. The solenoids fit with two screws, and one retracts the screws when fitting new pads. So that's it folks, as Hughie Green said.

I found this Video which explains the the different types of EPB and what methods are used to test them.

It does include how to set the 'Bedding Mode' but it is on a Disco.
Perhaps someone who has worked on a FL2 EPB could look at this video and tell us which system/method applies to us.

I note that modern systems will automatically go into 'Testing Mode' when the right dynamic conditions are experienced.

(Also I note that the complicated Traction/Stability Systems need everything working to be safe on the road, and therefore running with fuses drawn is quite hazardous)



I would have thought that it was the responsibility of the MOT Tester to find out how to do the test, and if he hasn't the right equipment then send you to the correct testing centre. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

The FL2 EPB is very similar to the last vehicle in the video and is a delightfully simple system compared to that of the Disco 3; the latter combining a EPB switch with a motorised cable system and, I presume, its own brake shoes and requires a special "bedding-in" mode to test the EPB to test separately from the ABS braking. (why so complex?)


From the description of the last vehicle the FL2 EPB should be easy to test and can be tested on each rear wheel one at a time. No special procedure required.

From what you are saying there is no such thing as a bedding cycle for the Freelander 2 EPB.

I'll have to go and have a discussion with the tester. ( Living in a very remote rural area don't have the luxury of shopping around)

Tell him its more Mondeo than Range Rover

The brake parts have the FoMoCo stamp
