Swirl Flaps

Still waiting to get a warm morning to put the intake manifold back on the car after a glowplug change. My manifold had the swirl flaps which it now does not after my taking out the rod and the flaps and sealing up the end where the vacuum enters.
Now a couple of questions.
In the non swirlflap version are there still passageways between each inlet where the rod passed through?
My idea as to how they worked is as follows.
Vacuum arrives at point marked by A in pic 001 shown larger in pic 002
Now am assuming it then arrives at the actuator via socket X in pic 003 and when the actuator is electrically operated the vacuum then goes to the manifold.
Can I ask what is the part marked Y in pic 003?
And am I okay blocking the vacuum at the connector shown again in pic 002?
I find this connector looks at first sight as just something to hold the socket to.
Hope some, or all , of this makes sense.
