Coincidence, I've just had mine investigated for clicking/slapping,,,,,,, and it's the alternator pulley, Thumbs Up
it had some slackness in it, job done. DAVE.

The idler and tensioner pulleys are easy to replace (ive just done mine).



Jules, Just out of curiosity did you have any bother with the alternator pulley and removal? I've seen mixed reports on difficulty when removing the pulley and teeth being rounded. Was thinking of tackling it myself but the thought of complications such as taking the power steering pump out scares me slightly.
Managed the two other pulleys which were a heck of a lot easier than I imagined.

Hi O-B...

No, I didnt replace the alternator pulley, though I bought the tool (£6). When I replaced the FEAD belt pulleys and I then determined that the fault lay with the AC compressor and the alternator pulley seemed fine.

So I'll cross that bridge another day. Jules

Replaced the Alternator pulley today which was most definitely seized and very noticeable when the new pulley was replaced. The tool that Jules recommended did the job and it wasn't too much of a pain to remove the old one from he alternator. Replaced the fuel filter as well.
So the three pulleys have now been replaced; Idler, Tensioner and alternator pulley.

Artic I initially thought it was something on top of the engine around the injectors but as I have a hearing issue I wasn't able to locate it as I don't have 3-D hearing anymore Laughing It was my son who advised me where the sound was coming from and so when I had a look in the area of the pulleys it was obvious there was an issue there.

It was only after replacing the tensioner and idler pulleys did it become really apparent it was the alternator pulley as the annoying rumble hadn't been completely eradicated. Neither job was complicated or hard to be honest just putting the alternator back in its tight spot and replacing the fuel filter was the hardest job.
