Droning Noise at Front on acceleration in low gears

Had my rear diff changed about 5000 miles back by Bell and all nice and peacefull driving up until last month now have a different noise coming from the front which is audible in low gears 1st and 2nd and quieter in third nothing at the top end of gears sounds like a droning. Power is all good and there are no fault codes and no black smoke out of exhaust which is all clear. The noise seems to get louder when heat has built up from driving longer distances. Now at 165k and have been relatively trouble free apart from the rear diff for last 40k. Running through the list of possible causes: If it was the turbo surely I would be down on power and throwing up fault codes and black smoke and the same for split hoses down on power and fault codes . The only hose i have ever replaced was the short throttle body hose when that split about 30k back so maybe but maybe its a bottom hose?. No wheel bearings have been replaced but the sound on other smaller cars I have heard before is much louder like a siren as you go faster and very obvious. Then of course there is dreaded front PTU and another £1200 to replace so I hope not but maybe?. Mines a manual and around 2007/8 on 57 plate so its getting on a bit old and these types of problems expected to crop up now. Any advice on this. Big Cry FL2 2008 165K

I had a droning from the front - thought it the PTU but it turned out to be the NSF wheel bearing.

Even Bell Engineering that it was the PTU on their initial inspection.

So it could be a wheel bearing. Jules

Thanks Jules that is helpful. Was the sound louder from the front in low gears and fading at higher speed? The rear diff was a constant low droning noise when I had that replaced by Bell. Mine now is a low droning rising sound and then starting to dissapear in third and fourth and also noticed it more on cornering on a roundabout.
Also was the wheel bearing replacement on a 57 or around that year plate at around 165k mileage? FL2 2008 165K

I would say its more than likely a front wheel bearing can you jack it up and try to spin the wheel start with the drivers side

All good advice Boxal/ Rommel I have booked it into my local indie to check it out and hope its just a wheel bearing as my bet is near side front but as suggested will get both front replaced as the other one will not be far behind doing the same. With lack of my own garage (now converted to office) and dodgy legs don't do much on the car these days otherwise would bought a couple of Hub Assy and done it myself.
Failing that is back to Bell for a PTU replacement FL2 2008 165K

It was louder when going slowly. I couldnt detect it being louder on any side to my ear whilst driving,

But jacking the front and spinning each wheel in turn whilst holding the coil spring - you could feel the difference caused by the worn bearing through the spring. Jules

NSF usually goes first - due to our roundabouts

I assume its the OSF in Europe. Jules

As I thought the Local garage reckons its the PTU and maybe OSF driveshaft bearing and big leak on the seal with the gearbox fortunately I has already booked in with Bell next week for the PTU FL2 2008 165K

Yes nice countryside around Bell out in the middle of no where, when I went there for the rear diff and went past it had to double back.

My local Indi said all wheel bearings ok but reckons the noise is also coming fropm the bearing on the RH Driveshaft thats giving noise/harshness is the way he described it, as he put a scope on both. So plan is get the PTU done first (bit of a trek for me) already booked which will also stop oil leaking out of the gearbox and then see if the driveshaft is the same. I am concerned how much oil is left in the gearbox and PTU and if that maybe making the driveshaft noisy as the RH one seems to sit along way in the PTU. PTU is probally had it at 165k so needs doing anyway but hoping the driveshaft has not had it.

I did read you can replace the bearing on the RH driiveshaft but seems a bit fiddley and labour intensive and why would you? apart from the cost it would seem better and more stratightforward to stick a new driveshaft on, any views on that. FL2 2008 165K

When you say driveshaft bearing do mean the CV joints? one inner and one outer. 2013 FL2 XS.

My Indie words not mine I think he means CV joints.

No worries just spoke to Bell and Austen said they would check it out and also replace the driveshaft or bits of it if needed, they normally keep a spare one in case the old one is nakered when there on the job Thumbs Up. It has has to come off anyway to fit the PTU so kill two birds with one stone here and nothing for me to do, just as well my days of getting under cars are gone. Rolling with laughter Great Customer service from Bell can't praise them highly enough. FL2 2008 165K

Hi all, interesting read this, which maybe someone can head light on my issue...
2014 HSE auto, had haldex done by bell a while back but now have a noise sounds like something slipping ( not belt ) this seems to occur on acceleration such as passing another vehicle at top end speed and would say it's after being driving for a while so everything is warm/hot.
Would like to say it's from rear leftish side but not certain

TIA. If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.
