FL2 Odd electric issue

Elderly gent down the road has a 2010 FL2 (manual) which has stopped behaving. Apparently when he initially gets in and presses the Start button the temp gauge is at maximum but the engine does not turn over. He had already arranged for someone to fit a new battery just in case but that has made no difference.
Just prior to the issues he had been driving it and when stopped at some lights the engine was still running despite the ECO mode set but when he turned down the heating the engine stopped. Turning the heating up again caused the engine to restart.

Any ideas gratefully received although he has bought another FL2 (auto) as he needs transport to get to various clinics etc. If all else fails he will consider selling the 'broken' one but would prefer to get it running again

As the temperature changes outside it’s not got a mouse under the bonnet looking for somewhere warm to live ? May be eaten a bit of wiring.

Start with a hard reset, battery disconnected and touch the + and - battery leads together.
Failing that I'd suggest an auto electrician, rather than a general garage who may fiddle with it for hours not really knowing what they are doing. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

It would be interesting to see what codes are being recorded, or if indeed the Code Reader will successfully connect to the CAN BUS.

Bobupndown's RESET suggestion is worth trying.

The earlier Stop-Start problem may have been an indicator of a failing battery, and something has failed or has become 'out of sync' due to this. (the Temp Gauge is a clue)

Error Codes are needed to progress any diagnostic. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

ive got also electrical problems, one similar problem and thats temp shows maxium + my engine speed shows 7000rpm. what ive read about this it means temp sensor is not communicating whit ECU and therefor sensors typical goes to maxium.

readed my DTC and what i have is engine system fault / Lost communication Engine control unit / power train control module, and 40minutes before car worked fine, and now it wont start anymore. i need to start find reason for this.

any electrical help would be hopefull and what / where to start measure.

Unless I'm reading it wrong, this is perfectly normal behaviour for the stop/start system. The engine will keep running until all of it's (and there is many) parameters are met. Like in this instance, the engine kept running because the interior wasn't at target temperature. Once the heating was turned down, the car had all it's parameters met, so was able to "turn off" the engine. Once the heating was turned up, the engine was then told to restart so the heaters could then meet the target temperature. Smile https://www.youtube.com/@scottandalana4x4

I got caught up in the taking in-house of the JLR/UniPart Spares fiasco at the beginning of the year.

I needed a Rear Differential, and although my Extended Warranty worked well initially with the AA/Dealer, the backlog due to no parts being available led to my car being off the road for several weeks.
This led to a complete shortage of LR Courtesy Cars, and the inability of the nominated hire car company to source and supply a suitable replacement car.

Only by sending a personal email to the JLR CEO Adrian Mardell was any progress made on the hire car front, and a head office contact was appointed to chase the problems through on my behalf.

I noted that at no time did anyone admit there was countrywide problem with the stores system.

In retrospect I feel the head office contact did a good job in smoothing the troubled waters, although I could have made better decisions about hire cars, emptying car, etc if I had been told how bad the problem was.
