Hi, RP51BOB & everyone interested,

As you know I have had a few problems with our FL2SD4….bizzare probs.

Composed a reply a couple of hours ago …….explaining what I have done since last post about a week ago
…..quite a long post……I clicked on ‘submit’ …..then site said I had to log-in…..lost my reply….!!!!!
Waste of nearly an hour…..wasn’t happy.

Regards your post BOB……I have always used the LR fuel filters……had no problems….but I know that they are made by Purflux so shouldn’t be a problem with yours.
The fault code B100A-15 is,as I wrote on my post recently, a LR mistake……on the FL2SD4 2011-12 MY
they updated / modified the fuel pump in the f/tank without updating the ÉCU info…..it doesn’t cause a problem….it’s a permanent fault that you can’t remove…..ignore it. It’s a disgrace that LR didn't recall all affected motors. Once you are aware of it it’s ok, otherwise it could be a real worry.
I’ll do a post tomorrow….3/10…..a update on my FL2……parts arrived today……hope this reply gets posted.

Hi everyone,

Update from yesterday….
Further to my post of 25 September 9.28pm :
We had to use car yesterday morning 9h to go to vets & shopping…..wife was worried we might conk-out on mountain road…but I said it may be better since weather was cooler 16deg @9h…..
Car ran ok for 7mls then stuttered & lost power…..but kept going on Reduced Performance…..
While my wife was shopping ( she loves the French s/markets) I connected AP200……DTC’s : no.1 PCM..
P006A-00 manifold abs press or volume air flow……no.6 BCM…B100A-15…..well known…ignored. Erased DTC no. 1….
Got back up mountain road ok…..24mls round trip
Sensors arrived midday from Rimmers Bros…good service….OE units by Hitachi / Delphi….fitted MAF sensor first….started ok…..seemed smother….did road test, same route…..thought I had cracked it….then loss of power….but no stuttering…! About 23deg outside temp….3pm. Changed MAP ….easy enough…road test again….very smooth running but got about 3mls from home… power loss. I had the AP200 on live data
…..couldn’t read on phone while driving so I stopped….read DTC’s……same : no. 1 PCM air flow…nothing else…..(except stupid B100A-15 !). Reading the live data I noticed a few strange reading….got me wondering ‘is this AP 200 kit any good ? ‘…….it said Intake air temperature -34degC ! Also Distance since DPF regen = 755951m ! Mètres or miles ? But number of regents = 256…..
As far as I know the air intake temperature is taken from MAF sensor…..
So today ….car starts ok…runs ok…but is on Limp Mode after 1/2 mile. Nothing on dash ….except it says “Reduced Performance Mode “ when I remove key…..
What to do next ??????
Although the Peugeot /Ford HDI engines are everywhere in France there aren’t any Land-Rovers except Évoque around here. I will try to find out if the nearest dealer in Perpignan has the necessary diagnostic kit ….SDD…to dig deeper………..not many Indi specialists but I will ask..

I may refit the old MAF sensor to see if the AP200 gives a similar air temp reading…minus 34C
Surely if the ÉCU received this info the engine would be over fueling to compensate…..it runs normal..no smoke…nice & smooth just won’t rev past 2200rpm……that’s enough most times…..!

There are so many things that could be putting car into Limp but nothing is shown except PCM P006A-00
Temporary Fault says AP200.
I not changing parts “on the off chance” so will try & find out more.

Sounds like a nightmare Pete! I believe you are correct the air intake temperature is taken from the MAF so if that’s dodgy then it will really screw things up. Your new MAF may be flaky or just have a dirty contact? The original stuttering fault has never put my car into limp mode so I think this may be a new problem just introduced.

I went down the temperature sensor route a couple of pages back on this thread. I took the readings below:

Ambient air temperature 7deg
Engine coolant temperature 14deg
Engine oil temperature 14deg
External temperature 215deg (this is not a typo)
Fuel temperature A 12deg
Intake air temperature 8deg

So wondered if the “external” temperature reading was the culprit. This isn’t the one that feeds the dash display, that’s “ambient” temperature. But I could never find on any circuitdiagram where the external temperature reading comes from so that was a dead end.

Please keep us posted on progress, as it’s now gone autumnal in the UK you’re the only one with a car warm enough to keep experimenting (if that’s any consolation!) From recent posts the crankshaft sensor might be worth a try but I understand your reluctance to keep firing the parts cannon at it.

The Ambient Air Temperature Sensor is located in the Lefthand Wing Mirror.

And, as I understand it the Mass Air Flow Sensor measures the Air Temperature in the Intake as a function of calculating the AirFlow.

I haven't got time at the moment to find page, but the Repair Manual has Diagrams and Descriptions of how all this works and locations of components. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Hi everyone,

Rapid response to my post this morning Scarecrow……interesting post thanks…& yours IanMetro….

Checked reading with AP200 again this morning……checked connectors again….all straight & clean…MAF plug never been off before this last week. AP200 said intake air temp -39C…..a bit chilly for 12h36 !
I unplugged carefully & reconnected original FoMoCo MAF…..checked with AP200….intake air temp 19C…
Ambient temp on dash …19deg C……& on outside thermometer 19deg……seems a faulty new OE sensor…..annoying….
As you say Ian the air intake temp is monitored on the MAF…..it has to be…..so a reading of -39C would as you rightly say “screw things up”…….more fuel, injection timing……would be way out surely.
I am going to do another road test asap…….at the moment we have a road closure, scaffolding being erected …..blocked-in a bit. Wife wants to go shopping midday tomorrow 25mls round trip so may wait.
I remember reading your post about the hot external temperature ….215deg…Scarecrow….bizzare…perhaps a spoof reading like the B100A-15 Fuel pump authorization……!

Hi Ian, the “Ambient” temperature is fine, and the sensor is on all the wiring diagrams. It’s the “external” temperature that is giving crazy readings and which I can’t find anywhere. Of course it’s possible there is no such sensor on the FL2 and it’s just a diagnostic from a Ford that uses similar code!

Hi Scarecrow,

I think you have it right…..the “external temp” reading is like I said….it’s a LR “cock-up” like the B100A-15
ghost DTC……..!
What is the external temp…..surely is ambient temperature…….or should be….temperature outside of the vehicle…….

What diagnostic machine are you using Scarecrow ….?
I am using the Autel AP200 ….since May this year…..I purchased it because of the good reports on this site.
It seems to work ok, except sometimes it doesn’t connect to the car easily…..have to unplug the dongle & plug-in again…..
It seems that if you look for faults you will find them….which you can with a code-reader……..but are they really faults…….??????
Will road-test my FL2 tomorrow………
Wife says it must go…..if I can’t sort it soon…….. Rolling with laughter

Back on line….
Just saw your post Ian, I was doing post at same time…………I am going to test car tomorrow….as per my post…..today

I had a good look at the intake & pressure hoses……but looking at photo it could be missed easily….
same DTC as mine but would have expected to hear a whistle with a split like that…..but if the car still goes to limp with same DTC I’ll take hose off & have a close look………..

I found it annoying that I purchased an OE Hitachi MAF sensor & found that the inlet air temperature it gave this morning was -39 degC……! Clearly faulty. Will send it back for refund……..

Thanks for info…..

I’m using a Gap IID tool. It’s expensive but it’s paid for itself in letting me diagnose and fix my Disco 4. I haven’t paid to unlock it for the Freelander but even in locked mode it does comprehensive diagnostics

Btw, it is possible to buy new CPS plugs to replace on wiring loom from china. I read that Nodge ordered them fro USA and paid some hefty delivery fees. Link here:

Good evening all,

Just a quick update….since 8.08pm last night…..

Today 4/10 ….2pm

We gave car a road test….to shops 12ml….it stuttered a bit when cold …went to Reduced Performance after
about a mile….decent climb up mountain road……got to supermarket ok…..whilst the wife shopped I plugged in AP200….ran diagnostics….no.1 DTC PCM…..different fault code..P2263-21 Turb boost system
performance………that’s all. First time I’ve seen this code……
On the return journey 12ml I kept diagnostics on Live Data…..asked wife to read out MAP sensor reading on the move. At start-up 98kpa…..normal…rising to 120Kpa on climbing at 2200rpm…max allowed on Limp-Mode…….so not a lot of boost. By my reckoning there must be either 1) a turbo hose leak as IanMetro suggested 2) turbo variable vanes stuck. Checked DPF pressure differential on Live Data 2Kpa . so if correct ok…DPF.not blocked…………? Any comments ? Am I correct in my thinking ?
Weird thing : on return to our village there was a deviation ……avoiding main road…I realised we would have to climb a short 1in 3 mountain road….the wife said « will we make it »……..it roared up in 1st 2200rpm…….Reduced Performance…..can’t be much wrong……!
Next: will remove under panel & have a good…even better look at pipe work / intercooler……….

Hi everyone,

Update, a bit more positive….
I did a post this afternoon……but came to submit & found I was logged out….happened before….lost my response…….don’t know whether it was because I didn’t click on ‘keep me logged in ‘…..never mind

This afternoon I took off under tray & with some good torches had a look at the T/C hoses…….as my last post. Bit of oil around O/S of intercooler…..not unusual…..but noticed slight split on side of hose to throttle valve…..the last flexible before manifold /T/valve. Looked nothing….but I tried pushing a screwdriver against flexi & it went straight through…….! Seemed a very weak hose….perhaps damaged by oil.
IanMetro……I think you are right…..I looked at your response to TonyT48 ‘s question…..Reggie Perrin…same symptoms……I looked also at Ebay link to buy new hose…….now sold-out….having sold 779 units…..must be very common fault. I had three packs of self-vulcanising tape….I thought , no problem I ‘ll tape it up to test. Slight problem, it wouldn’t stick…..out of date product by 5 yrs. I managed to loosen clips to hose, luckily accessible, swiveled it around for access, then fitted a puncture repair patch from my bike, secured with 3 ratchet ties. Left it 1/2 hr then r/test…..same route……no problems……load of power!.
I connected AP200 Live Data …..whilst on test…..bit difficult with phone on lap & mountain road….but I saw
265 kPa on MAP sensor = effective T/C boost pressure…..way better than yesterday around 115kPa….
So simple….tiny split in hose….thanks Ian……
Whether this hose has been the problem all along…..hard to say….yesterday was first time I saw the T/C problem DTC….before it was the sensor prob P006-A
I think fitting the new OE MAF sensor which was faulty, giving a air intake temp of -39C may have , as Scarecrow wrote, « screwed-up the ECU…..too much fuel p’haps……leading to a bit of overboost….hard to say….
What I am sure of is that having a half decent code reader on board like the AP200 is really useful.
Really useful to have the input of other members who know something about motors, thanks.
I am going to order a new hose……then time will tell if the hesitation / stuttering is solved……
I think there were /are two faults…..1) faulty MAP sensor…..ok cured….pity the MAF sensor gave a stupid reading…….. 2) something else causing stutter during hot weather………

We will see…….at least wife is happier…..we can keep Freelander….! She loves it but can’t take the stress of thinking it might break-down………I say ‘they all do someday’
I’m going to have a nice glass of wine, bye for now

I hope this gets posted…….don’t want see ‘Log-in ‘ again

Hello,
An update for anyone interested from last post 5/10/24 :

Had a look online for new T/C hose, anxious to get the correct part I located a Gates OE one that looked right & was described correctly on AutoDoc.fr……ordered it Sunday 6/10…arrived ok on 10/10 from Berlin !
Fitted new hose with a bit of a struggle….to throttle housing easy but hose being very tough material was difficult to connect plastic hose. Took for short blast….all ok…rechecked for any faults….none.
Did 90 ml trip yesterday in 24deg……never missed a beat…..no hesitation, no stuttering, no Limp-Mode,
no DTC’s…did 25mls today ..ok…..very happy but it’s a bit of a puzzle…..
To recap : Fitted new MAF sensor…..subsequently found to be faulty. Refitted old one. Fitted new MAP sensor ….ok
Fitted new T/C hose…..ok
Will see how it goes, certainly running great at mo.
Thanks to Scarecrow & IanMetro for useful advice.

Good news, hope it stays working for you! I’ve never had any fault codes associated with the stutter but after reading all the above will definitely check the turbo hoses and the CPS. It might be a combination of two or more things that causes it. Thanks for all the updates this is a good diagnostic record!
