Collected it from its previous owner and drove it to its forever home.
A long but pleasant drive… much better than an F1 !

To be honest I'd have no trouble selling it, as it's much better than a lot of other's for sale locally.

The delay was I wanted to rebuild the top end of the engine, before it was sold. It had been on my 'to do' list for 18 months, but I never found the time.
However the new car negated the need for 2 large cars, so I decided to sort the engine properly.
I found the cause of the coolant pressurising and the misfire at ¾ throttle, both being attributed to the cheap BG head gasket I'd installed back in November 2021. There were cracks between all 3 central cylinders, which caused the misfire, and there was staining on the HG between No1 cylinder and a coolant way.

So it got a genuine HG set, including new bolts, seals, and everything else needed to refit the head. I also had the head re-faced, as the gasket failure between cylinders had caused some minor burning of the head face.
The engine got a new timing belt kit, all filters, fresh oil and glow plugs.
The engine has cost me almost £400 to put back together, as I knew it was going to another forum member.
I'm pleased that the engine tested to be perfect after the work, which means Freddie17 can concentrate on the subframe and Haldex, then enjoy it. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Baltic Blue

Thursday 200 mile trip including lots of traffic jams on 'smart' motorways. Friday, metal rattle noise coming from the belts area, jacked up and removed wheel arch shield but couldn't pinpoint it. Monday, dropped it down to the local garage for a look see, identified as worn alternator bearing and replaced, back by lunchtime. Dodged a bullet there I think.
Hung like Einstein, smart as a horse.

Hi Freddie.
Enjoy at least you know you have an FL2 that has lots of those jobs doing which others will need doing in the future and by someone whom knows these cars.

He has got a good decent FL2 now which he can enjoy knowing the belts have been done amongst other things. Wink

Replaced cam belt, pulleys, water pump, aux belt, power steering reservoir and fluid.
Took off the Dynamic front lower trim that never seemed to fit properly and kept coming off! 2012 SD4 HSE Orkney Grey

Same here shiggsy, mine was the alternator pulley, all probably age related now. DAVE.

Exactly! That’s why I was prepared to wait and travel to Nodge, for this particular example. Wink

I'd say so, mine has only just gone through 60k.

Finished installing the new facelifted front bumper. So much better looking than the old cracked broken old style one. Just ordered a few more bolts and screws, so that they are all new and not rusty.

Then took the head lights off and sanded them down and polished them up again with my Rupes Bigfoot and 4 levels of polishing creme. Does look nicer.

Cheers,
Redfox

Our Freelander 2 SE i6 is nearing a quarter million kilometers, so far, so good.
So, in a series of more service and more tests, I made a sniffer test today, and luckily the test liquid stayed completely blue, not turning green or yellow. I will let the head gasket stay there for a few more kilometers.
Next test to be made asap.

On a secondary note, I just picked up a new washing machine, as the old one was beyond repair with parts being more expensive than a new one, grrrr. Slipped right in the back, with lots of room to spare. So saved some 65 gbp on delivery. Good to have a little return for the measly 1250 gbp annual road tax here in Denmark. A disgusting tesla is 2360 kilo, so more than 600 kilo heavier than our Freelander 2, batteries minerals dug up by children in God only knows where and then "greened" through a long list of companies, cannot do anything right, powered by Polish coal power stations, and is 60 gbp in road tax per year. Hmm... No way I am going to surrender. Ever. And the trunk is not useful for a washing machine.

Kind regards,
Redfox

Changed a few bolts and screws underneath the front bumper, so they are fresh and black, instead of safari colored.
And a head lamp back cover, which decided to break off two tabs before my ownership. All good now.

Coming home from Land Rover with those bits, my Freelander decided to bleed on the street, exactly where I parked it.
Hmm... Coolant. Only missing a bit, but looks like a hose on the backside of the engine. No obvious leaks in the front of the engine so far. Will look into it in the weekend. Eventually I'll pressure test it. Then there's also the infamous plastic thermostat housing and the short tube attached to it. I'll probably change those for good measure. No worries, though. I'd say a well mannered car, not to leave me stranded with a full blown head gasket on the freeway, but decided just to leak a little bit, when coming home. Good car Wink

Cheers,
Redfox
