Hmm, finding myself driving in the middle of a field, despite when looking out the window, I see that we're still driving on a road. So time to update our old 2005 DVD sat nav disc set.

The 2019-2020 disc set, and i have all 4 of them for driving around in other European countries, works well, with tons of updates. Smooth installation, took 15 minutes with no glitches and just one reboot when it's done and starting up with the new updated software for the first time.
Starts up in English, so just choose the user settings, and selected Danish, of course.

A good update and worthwhile in my humble view. I may now also better update my other separate sat nav that I use in the other cars. It's also from probably 2005'ish, so still driving in a corn field in the middle of nowhere

I'm doing the swirl flap removal today, starting at about 12 Noon.

I've no idea if they have already been done with the car on 185k miles, but I'm going to change the glow plugs at the same time, so it wont be a waste of time.
New Fuel filter as well & blank the EGR.

Hopefully, it all goes to plan

I managed to get the swirl flaps and glow plugs done yesterday,

All in all about 5 hours work!
The inlet manifold was off in about 1.5hrs, looking at it, the swirl flaps were Intact and working.
Getting the rod and flaps out was a pig of a job, I had to break all the flaps off, then eventually the rod came out (in 2 halves).

The glow plugs that came out were NGK, no idea if these were original at 185k miles, but they came out fairly easily, they were 8mm, but I had to carefully hammer a long socket over them to remove.
The new glow plugs were 10mm.

Before I took the inlet off, I got the vacuum cleaner and a detailing brush and cleaned as much of the inlet as possible, it was quite sandy/gritty and I didn't want it getting into the ports.
I also used the vac when cleaning up the mating faces on the head. I also fitted new inlet manifold seals.

There were no surprises really, I dropped a bolt which luckily fell straight through and the fuel filter was very easy to prime.

So my next big job in a few weeks is the timing belt & water pump.

If you doing the timing belt next, have you got all the timing tools?

I'm happy to lend you the timing tools & flywheel locking tool (essential with tightness of the crankshaft pulley bolt).
I also have a Sykes Pickavant angular torque wrench you can borrow?

This is a genuine offer, as I purchased all these tools a couple of years ago to do my cambelt and they have been sitting on my garage shelf ever since.

I was going to go with a Dayco but after reading on here, the Gates kit comes with a new crack bolt?

I fitted (along with many others on here) the Gates kit, which as mentioned includes a new crankshaft pulley bolt, which is a stretch bolt, so must be replaced.

It is also worth considering changing the serpentine belt with tensioner & idler (which is also a Gates kit) as you have to strip this lot off when doing the timing belt anyway.

I got both kits on ebay.


Soon as I get your address I'll get all the tools off to you, don't rush to get it all back to me, as I only do about 3,000 miles a year so it will be a long time before I need them again plus this time of the year the weather will be against you unless your able to do it undercover.

They were bought against my reg number from an online Land Rover independent.
I have emailed them, just to double check.
I'll be miffed if I have to do the Job again.

After further investigation, it's looking like I'll have to do the whole job again as I need the 11v ones and have fitted the 5v ones.
Really F##ks me off that online sellers just put that it fits 2006 -2014, but no mention of 2 different types/voltages.

The only saving grace is because I've already done the job, it should be easier next time around.

Just out of interest, the 5v glow plugs that have been fitted, will they not work at all?

I've just ordered the correct ones for my VIN, part number LR001302 - 11V

Stayed back after work to get them fitted, 2 hrs start to finish - job done.

MOT done , only new wiper blades . 4000 miles in a year not a lot is going to wear, that’s it for another year
