AUTOMATIC GEARBOX ISSUES - JOLT WHEN MOVING INTO "D&quo

Hi guys,

For a while now, I've been plagued with the following 2 symptoms mostly. Other than these 2, the cars runs absolutely amazing !

1. Sometimes, mostly after the car has heated up, when I move the shift into "D" the car has a slight jolting/cluck, sometimes a light one, sometimes a heavy one, more energetic.

2. Always, when I stop at traffic lights, the break pedal starts juddering. If I put the stick into "N", then the juddering stops.

Usually it goes like this:

1. I boot the car, go into D and all is nice & good.
2. After a couple of minutes, I reach a traffic light & I stop, the break pad starts juddering & I switch into "N" to stop it.
3. Traffic light becomes Green & I move into "D" to go, then the jolt/clunck happens.
4. Car runs runs just fine, it shifts buttery smooth & accelerates great, until the loop begins again.

I've changed the gearbox oil 2 times already, no improvements. Some suspect it might be the torque convertor.

What do you guys think?

Thanks !

I took the car to the garage, made the software update, delete previous settings and presto !

No more symptoms, I'm just shocked ! Thanks!

Fingers crossed for the symptoms to not appear again anytime soon.

Told you in February that's also a hardware problem, which the software update only had masked.

Btw, do you have any recommendations for a torque converter refurbishing in RO in case things begin to go south again?/

The problem is not the TC, are some o-rings inside the box.
Read the message and the link posted in Feb.

But to answer to your exact question, no, I don't... Sorry.

Unfortunately the issue is back, made a software update & changed OIL to gearbox. What could it be???

Other than that, the car is just amazing !

Did you get the software update from a, JLR main dealer?
I had the same problem with my 2013 TD4 Auto and main dealer software update sorted it.

Hi Alex,

I too have this problem even after the software update though I doubt very much they did the driving adaptation after the update.....would that make a difference long term if they didn't do this you think?

So either way, if the problem persists we are left with only two options....have the gearbox removed and seals replaced or live with it? I wonder after reading your February link to the Seal Replacement report if a change of oil with lower viscosity would help? I know nothing of these things so please forgive my ignorance if I have suggested something stupid.

To avoid it I now always select Neutral or Park if I stop in traffic. Even in slow moving traffic if I have to stop completely I select Neutral. In this way I rarely if ever get the dreaded gearbox thump!

Thanks for all of your valuable input!

Very rarely do I experience this problem, if I do, only when stuck in traffic, M25, select 2nd gear and no problem. Obviously I am Auto gearbox.
