Volvo XC60

I know that the XC60 was developed alongside the Freelander 2 as part of Ford using the same architecture and sharing many components but does anybody know if they used the same engines or are they completely different? FL2 SD4 XS 2013 Orkney Grey

Don't believe they ever used the 2.2 diesel engine, think they were 2.0 4 cylinder and possibly the 5 cylinder D5.
One of the few cars that appeal as a Freelander 2 replacement in future, if I don't go for a 4x4 Skoda Superb. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

The two vehicles share some DNA, but use a lot of different components, including engines, gearboxes and driveline components.
I know Volvo i6 engine used in the Freelander 2 was also used in the XC60.
However Volvo used their own diesel engines. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

What @Nodge68 said, my LR2/FL2 2008(made in 2007) i6 is a Volvo engine. There are other Volvos models that use that engine as well.

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Fuji White

The XC60 has moved on since it's 'Ford' days, but it is lovely inside and about the right size to replace a FL2.
The T8 PHEV version seems incredibly powerful. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)

(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

Thanks for the replies

The XC60 is on my " replacement " list alongside the XC40..

However my MY2013 XS SD4 is running well and just on 90000 so hopefully a few more years. FL2 SD4 XS 2013 Orkney Grey

I ordered a XC60 last September - delivery date kept moving originally Feb then April then June so I cancelled.
Very pleased I did as LR then started having 'offers' and available cars and I bought Disco Sport S ( my 4th) - much better command driving position then Volvo and doesn't seem as 'dated' 2011 XS,Sumatra Black, GONE MARCH 2014- RR Evoque Prestige 5 door ,MY 2014,Loire Blue, Silver Roof, Panoramic roof.

How do you find the performance of the headlights? I understand they are available in mid and high versions , also with Matrix ( very rare ).
I ask because of previous experience with poor HB3 units in the Freelander and have read reports of poor performance in DS? FL2 SD4 XS 2013 Orkney Grey

The PHEV XC60 is a possible successor to my FL2, whenever that day comes.

A friend has an XC60 - very nice. But the battery charging system failed within the 1st year. Ran on petrol OK. Took many months for the Volvo dealership to diagnose the problem (had to call in specialist people from Volvo). All sorted now.

Problem with all these similar sized SUVs is that they seem to have much less useable luggage capacity. I suppose its because they all have such sloping tailgates compared to the FL2.

FL2: seats up 775L, seats down 1670L.

XC60: seats up 468L, seats down 1395L

Have people with an XC60 noticed issues with the luggage capacity, and packing things in with the seats up? Jules

Wow - didn't realise XC60 luggage capacity was comparatively so low compared with FL2.

As I've found there isn't a suitable replacement for the FL2 except the DS with all its various problems. FL2 SD4 XS 2013 Orkney Grey

Jules are you sure that FL2 capacity with seats up is correct? FL2 SD4 XS 2013 Orkney Grey

I realise there are several ways to measure luggage capacity so I dont know just how comparable the 2 vehicles are in actual fact. Jules

I wonder if the FL2 figure of 755l includes the spare wheel well as many originally came with a canister and pump rather than a spare wheel. Some sources quote space as 405l which sounds more like it to me. FL2 SD4 XS 2013 Orkney Grey

We do find that the boot space is a little on the smaller size at times, but then years ago we had a Volvo estate and that spoiled us. Very Happy
