Lovely Picture, Lovely Aircraft.

I remember the Vulcan which was used to test the Concorde Engine in the 1960's, I saw it several times at Filton Airfield (Bristol Aircraft Company) it had the extra engine slung underneath in the bomb bay.

At Air Displays it used to do a slow run across followed by a full bore 5 engine climb.

Took this at the Vulcan’s last appearance at Weston-Super-Mare air day.

When I lived in north Bristol in the ‘60s the engine testbed Vulcan often flew over the house.

I was a little tired of looking at the worn, scratched inner handles in grey, not complementing anything inside or outside, now that I run an ever so slight black theme as a contrast thig. Ordered a set og genuine Land Rover gloss black inner handles plus a new tank filler strap. That is fine, as the backside of the inner door handles, already are black from factory. I think it goes well with the other few black things inside and outside. I will for sure retain the black plastic trim on the outside. It's an off-roader, not a street racer. For that I use my Esprit.

Oh well, I cannot post any pictures. It uploads, but doesn't show up...

Kind regards,
Redfox.

I have had the emmence pleasure of sitting in the cockpit of a Vulcan in Coventry with an handlebar moustached exRAF chap explaining all about the aircraft including the curtains over the side portal windows to shield one from the glare of a nuclear explosion. Serious stuff.

Only the pilot and co-pilot had ejector seats, the remaining 3 crew members had to bale out through the hatch underneath. The statistics are harsh: 50% of co-pilots and 30% of pilots escaped, but only 9% of rear crew. Pilots sometimes didnt eject to try and give time for the rear crew to bale. Jules

There is a certain 'something' about old aeroplanes, they have a certain smell for one thing.

I too have sat in the one at Coventry and also that one at Wellesbourne, but the ultimate privilege was getting to sit in XH558 during it's latter flying career.

Rear seats only, and firmly told not to touch anything or drop anything...!

On my SE i6, drained all coolant out, flushed the whole coolant system 4 times, and then used Castrol Radicool Si-OAT antifreeze/demineralized water 50/50, following procedure as per work shop manual.
Cheers
Redfox.

Spent the day taking off the old rusty tow bar and assorted parts.
Then I cleaned up all parts of the rear end of the car - no rust, so clean and then rustproofing.
Then installed a new tow bar, that I had unpacked, then sand blasted, then dipped in galvanizing and then powder coated black. The new tow bar is detachable, and the electrical connector turns up and hides behind the fender. There is absolutely nothing that protrudes neither rearwards nor downwards. Very discrete too. This is a part of my preparation for a long mountain drive later this year, to keep the good factory angles of descent and ascent, and if there is hopefully still peace around.

Kind regards,
Redfox

On Friday I used one of those cheap dent puller kits to reasonable effect on a dent just aft of the fuel filler flap that has been there since before I've owned it.

Not perfect, but doesn't draw the eye so much and I'm loathed to keep going at it, because I'll probably end up making it worse... Rolling Eyes

Unusually for me, I didn't take any before pics... Shocked

Had a mind to fit the door rubbing strips that I bought not long after I bought this car - getting on ten years back. Lightly tacked them in situ with a little masking tape and...

... same doubts as the last time I thought about fitting them - the Firenze Red doesn't look better for them so again, back into storage they went.

I fitted a set to my previous Ipanema Sand car and thought they really enhanced the car. I think the car had black handles and mirrors so the strips perhaps looked more in keeping.

Big service andf MOT - passed with no advisories, not bad for a 12 year old car.
