I've been having a browse for a couple of weeks now
I don't own a FreeLander, but have had several other LRs in the past

Married, 'knocking on the door' of 60, own several bikes (but don't ride as much as I ought to!/used to race too; CX/MTB/road-race), used to run (fell-races were my preference)


I've been a member of the 'LRUK' forums since 2003, & 'Mud-Club' since its inception

Past Land Rover history
1. Series 2A Light-Weight (almost put me off for life!!)

2. Defender 110Tdi Hard-Top ('L' plated/300Tdi)
An utter rocketship in comparison, bought from Copley Motors
Test drive was partly up 'the autobahn', the climb to Ainley Top (jct 24/M62 - pre speed cams), & it crested it at almost 70MPH!!

3. 90CSW-V8
Genuine factory V8, great fun - but too thirsty

4. Discovery 50th Anniversary (300Tdi/manual)
Bought as a compromise, I wanted a 'series 1' Range Rover, wife fancied a Shogun
Never really got on with it

5. Defender 110 'Heritage' (Td5)
Green leather/white dials
The CSW, I'd always promised myself

That was sold in March 2010

I thought, a few times, about buying a Range Rover TDV8, but never got any further


I presently own a Skoda Kodiaq, as a 2.0TDi/6-speed manual/4x4 'Haldex' system (some are FWD only)/5-seater
Quite happy with it, & its 50+MPG averages for me

Prior to that, I had an Octavia estate, for almost 10 years (& 170,000miles), I only bought the Kodiaq, as my wife wanted another caravan (& bigger than I'd want to tow, safely, with the Octavia)

FreeLanders didn't cross my mind, at that point

However..... even though she was there when I saw it, had a look at it/we paid for it/etc....
After getting on for 3 years, it's still my fault that it's a manual, so she won't drive it
(she bought a Q3, for when she needed to tow)

We're at that point though, where she wants me to sell it, & get an automatic, that she can use
(& sell the Q3?)

I'm considering another Kodiaq
But.... I saw a FreeLander in a nice green a couple of weeks ago, & it clicked (if I can find one)
A fairly dark metallic
So, I might look a bit closer??


Question; how do I upload more than one photograph at a time (to illustrate past LRs)

You'd probably find the Freelander feels old fashioned after the Kodiaq.
Why do you need to have two 4x4 tow cars if your wife already had her Q3?

In the 70s we'd drink in the Swan with Two Necks - they used to serve a wonderful hand-pulled Tetleys whilst everywhere else was selling 'orrid electric beers and that lager stuff. Jules

2 x tow-cars; if I get an automatic, she'll sell the Q3, & get a smaller car as a 'runabout' (I'm thinking Fabia)
FreeLander old-fashioned?; I had that Discovery 50th for 4 years, so I'm sure a late FL will be more modern than that??
I'd miss the internal space & larger load-space of the Kodiaq though
I doubt a FreeLander could offer me the 50+MPG averages either??

Or, am I talking myself out of one there???





Jules; I've been in a couple of times, back in the late 80s
Friar Tucks was the one of choice for me
Can't give an opinion, on the beers they have, as I've been teetotal since passing my driving test in the early 80s


My old 'Heritage'

I’d keep the Skoda - says me, who’s the owner of his fourth Fl2 - a Metropolis presently.
We have a 4x4 Yeti TDI as well, which is much more economical than the Land Rover.

I must admit that I find it interesting that you suggest I keep the Kodiaq, as it's a better car/more modern


As for the Q3, it's a 2.0 petrol-turbo/automatic, so the least economical combination
That's a reason for her wanting to sell/px it for something smaller

Hence, her wanting me to swap/px the Kodiaq for an automatic, so she can drive it

If it's not a FreeLander, I might try to find an Octavia Scout
