United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Santorini Black
New member

Hello all, my name is Jamie and i'm a long time masochist, sorry, Land Rover owner. I have recently bought a Freelander2 TD4 HSE Auto, i got it cheap with a failed head gasket and smokey exhaust.
Otherwise it's tidy, with 186k miles on the clock, and i'm looking forward to fixing her up and enjoying the relative refinement compared to my 55 plate Freelander1 TD4 Sport. I also have a late 2004 Jaguar S-Type 3.0 Petrol Auto.
I'm looking forward to chatting with you all, and hope to pick your brains sopme as i learn my way around my new (to me) Freelander.

Catch up with some of you soon

United Kingdom 2015 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Stornoway Grey

Late joining the party.
Just bought my first Land Rover Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis 2015.
Bought it in June with 35K on the clock and spent more time off the road than on.
Latest issue management light came on reduced power and stopped, that’s 2 weeks ago. Recovered back home, had RAC mobile mechanic out to it said it’s the low pressure fuel pump in the tank not sending fuel to the fuel filter/HP pump.
Welcome to Land Rover 😂

A pretty useless RAC mechanic then, as that is not how the fuel system works. It could be that the transfer pump in the tank has failed though. That pump just transfers fuel from one side of the tank to the other, due to the shape of the tank & the position of the fuel pick up point. How much fuel was in your tank at the time? (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.
171037Km as of 09/05/22

Hi Badger,

Thanks for your reply, looking back through threads it seems a common theam with the RAC to say fuel pump sender.

Not sure how much fuel was in probably less than half a tank. I’ve put in 15 litres tried to start (cranks over) but no luck, going to bleed the system to see if there’s an air lock and then check to see if the pressure sensors is clean and there are no fuel leaks. If no joy after that my knowledge is limited so will have to get it recovered to a garage.

Question; why is it that when looking online for the transfer pump suppliers refer to in tank sender?

Sorry but I don’t understand your reply; even in the detailed drawing it refers to as fuel sender not transfer pump.

Looking back at replies to this question, no one has really explained how this works on a Freelander 2 2014 year. Haynes manual refers to it as a fuel sender to the fuel filter. I have not seen any official documentation to say that the pump in the tank only transfers from one side to the other.

Without official documentation from Land Rover then anything said here is just here say.

You will get a better response if you post your problem in the Tech Section.
(You have been lucky that these keen members spotted your technical question in the WELCOME Stream)

Have you searched?

Download the JLR workshop manual from the Home/General section and read all about the fuel system there.

England 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 Dynamic Auto Firenze Red
First post, welcome thanks.

Firstly thank you for accepting me as a member, I’m not totally new to the LR family having owned several different variants but my latest as of yesterday is a 2013 Firenze red D4 Dynamic. This was bought to replace a Evoque SD4 which we owned for just 9weeks the steering rack failing after just 2of those weeks, due to the lead time to fix the car we got our money back for that one and bought the Freelader our first series 2 and so far it’s a big hit with the family.

Welcome.

We discounted the Evoque mk1 on account of the boot being less practical than the FL2. Now on our 3rd FL2 - have been happy with all of them. Jules
