You tend to get what you vote for. He made no secret of his intentions.
Do not take the above comment as a vote for Khan, just an observation.

In the Mayoral election he gained 40% of the first vote, nearest rival 35%. In the second vote he took 55% against second place 45%. Turnout was only 42% so he was hardly supported by the population of Londoners

As I said " Just an observation".
I am not pointing the finger at anyone here but if you haven't cast a vote, then you have no right to complain.
The figure for the turnout says it all. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

I cast a vote, as did many people I know, none of whom were in favour of ULEZ. We lost out but I suppose that’s democracy

I think that there is an awful lot of of disillusioned people who don’t vote as it’s only picking the least worst option, and there is nothing in it for them. Still don’t mean that they can’t moan.

I think that Heathrow does get captured by the extended zone, it is a bit hard to work out using the various websites, but I think this one shows it clearly.

https://www.emissioncharge.uk/?msclkid=6f8...4f06e1f994

Basically, everything inside the M25 get captured.

MY11 HSE Santorini Black Gone

My i6 is from Japan, they have no emission info when brought back, so are taxed at £290 a year it also has LPG but the way its going we are all doomed, to use electric which most likely have a large carbon footprint to make, I read recently that the Americans have come up with a system to keep your engine and run on hydrogen, the have re imported Nissan's into Europe that start on petrol then switch over to hydrogen, of course nothing is said because that does not sell new cars

Just checked mine and it's no charge on all of them, don't know if it's the LPG or all i6's Common sense isn't very common.

Why are we only worried about London and it's Mayor.

We are all being affected by what appears to be Government (and perhaps even World) Policy. We will only know if this policy did the trick if we hang around for a couple of hundred years. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

I don’t think that there is any point worrying about it as it’s inevitable it will be all over the entire country in the end. There is to many people in to smaller space and it’s a way of controlling who goes where and when.

New ultra low emission zone is being extended to all London Boroughs in August 2023… hence it will kill off usage of any FL2 unless the 3.2 petrol version within the M25 area.. you will have to pay £12.50 per day to use one daily…
So if you live or travel within the M25 you need to buy a new car because it will not be cost effective !

So my wife, my daughter and my father will need to sell their perfectly good cars and try and find the money to buy something else!
How is this saving the planet? [/b]

Is that definite yet? According to this it is only a proposal at the moment. https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low...n-for-2023

If I’m correct, the original ULEZ plans were similarly ‘‘out for consultation’ but despite much protesting, came into force regardless. It’s easy money. It’s generated absolute millions since it’s inception but you can’t get anyone in the London Assembly to tell you where it’s being spent. The Mayor wants everyone off the roads and then bleats on about the government not putting up enough money to fund the tube or buses. Use some of the ULEZ money perhaps??

I would have thought that it drove people out of the city centers.
here's my logic
Housing in city centers tends to be expensive, so if you are in a low paid job - say catering trade, you can't afford to live there. So the people on low paid jobs have to drive in, now they can't afford the penalty charge or a new car, so last resort is public transport.

As a result employers in city centers can't get the staff or have to pay more, they eventually go out of business and the city center dies. Look what happened when out of town shopping centers opened up with free convenient parking - city centers suffered.

The majority of us are lazy, so anything that makes our life easier will often be the path we take. You have the option of two jobs one lets you drive into work and the other forces you to use public transport - which would you take?

Good news is that if the city centers turn to wastelands the air quality will improve. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Andy has got it spot on. Bristol is going in precisely this way, with its 1970’s shopping centre up for redevelopment as housing and huge student accommodation blocks. A small local shopping centre along with library is also up for redevelopment and we all either find our way into Cabot Circus (the Woke will change that name soon) or trek around the ULEZ to get to Cribbs Causeway.

Cities are trying to promote active travel, which is a good thing, mostly by attempting to make it safer but the UK weather makes all year round cycling and E-biking not very palatable for many people who are capable of using active travel.

I used to cycle the 10 mile commute to work fairly often when I didn't need the car that day. It only took an extra ten minutes and sometimes was quicker. But I wasn't prepare to cycle in icy conditions. Jules
