Was this an easy enough job? Where did you buy the new struts from? Cheers

Hi Pejo,

Love the look of your tyre wheel combo. I read here https://www.freel2.com/forum/topic36367-15.html that you were looking around for options and see that you settled on 18" Evoque wheels. They look great. Can I ask which tyres you ended up fitting on them?

Thanks in advance.

Currently just wired in on a simple on/off switch to prove the loom is all as it should be. I'm going to be wiring them in on a switch with a positive feed from the main beam - so they will only work when main beam is activated and the switch is on. I managed to get hold of a D3/D4 aux light switch that should fit nicely on the speedo surround so it's visible when active. It has background lighting that comes on with dash lights, plus a visual indicator light when switched on. Will post pics when installed. Thumbs Up

Only so many shapes for aux lights I guess. Smile

This is vaguely the look I'm aiming for while enhancing the vaguely adequate main beam, only for the time being without the Lazer price tag that comes with this precise look Whistle Laughing

Yes one of the easier jobs. I believe there is a You Tube demo showing how to do it.
I got my struts from Brookwells (Bovey Tracy) as I was going to Mole Valley Farmers and they were nearby but loads on ebay. 11 GS Bali Blue
07 GS FL2. Usually muddy. Gone

Evoque rims to give a little more clearance with the new tyres - 255/60 R18 Falken WildPeak AT3W

Also fitted the rear mudflaps today

Tomorrow I'll finish wiring in the lamps properly with a D3 / D4 Aux Lamp switch I got my hands on, so I can have main beam with or without lamps, but never the lamps on without main beam.

@ NODOSH....what brackets did you use to mount the LED lights please?

ive just got some of these, and waiting on some lights to arrive before i get them fitted.

https://www.beavispits.com/product-page/sp...front-pair

the brackets are 3D printed and bolt onto the grill with no drilling but they are well made and solid brackets. It will be interesting to see if there is any vibration through to the lights when driving.

DPF light came on, car went into limp mode. Checked the prices for OEM DPF filters - around 900 EUR. DPF washing - 200 EUR, without any guarantee. So I went for third option which is not very green - dpf removal, together with new ecu software- DPF programmed out, engine remapped. Now my 2008 sx freelander has around 200hp instead of 152... The power is really noticable, super satisfied. As for dpf - no change in smoke or sound. They didn't even cut open the dpf filter, they managed to drill the filter element out.

The lights came with basic "L" brackets and some 40mm M8 bolts. It turns out that M8 will snugly fit through the grill, so after a bit of playing around I reversed one of the brackets (so both "feet" of the L faced the same way) and this gave me the correct spacing to pass through the centre of two gaps in the grill.

I placed some large washers both sides of the grill, got some longer bolts and some nuts as spacers (to correct for the curve in the grill and keep the lights pointing straight) and that was that.

No vibration evident it idle on the drive. Haven't been out for a spin as currently self isolating with the dreaded covid.

Will post some close-ups of what I've done in a bit. Current driveway contents:

@NODOSH - thanks for the pictures and explanation. Basically they are fixed to the grill the same as the brackets ive got but yours are much more discrete. Ive gone for a single bolt fixing on the LED lights so only need 1 bracket per side, for lights like yours id need 4 brackets which would make them a bit obtrusive. Hopefully they should work ok when they arrive Thumbs Up

I did look at the fittings you mention but as you say, I would have needed a couple of sets. Plus It would have left the lamps looking like Marty Feldman as there would have been no way to correct the curvature of the grill across the length of the lamp.

I'm going to see how I get on - but I may make a mild steel "frame" to the top and bottom of that spar on the grill and cut out the mesh so I can recess the lamps a little. Shall see how it goes. Current driveway contents:
