You need to get a battery to charge to power the house during the dark hours, why not a mobile battery, otherwise known as an EV. Way better to use your own stored power than have to buy any from the grid. They’ll always charge you more than they’ll pay you per unit.

Daughter and SiL loved their iPace for the past three years but the range is ridiculous when it’s driven like it should be! When they visit us from Norfolk to Cornwall they have to stop twice to charge, we only have stop three times going the other way in our old i3 94ah….they really must slow down

They are waiting for delivery of Polestar next, but this time they are going for the slower version with a bigger battery. Regards

I will try and answer your points in turn
1 have you seen the price of a new range rover lately
2 yes this is the best bit you install a simple wall connector at home that allows you to refuel your car whenever you want you can shop around with suppliers and get a good rate but when plugging in becomes part of your routine when you park on the drive you wake up with a full tank every morning
3 oh I disagree I have done my own brakes (strip and clean not replaced)and just last week I fitted a new wiper linkage as it had worn allowing the wiper arm to hit the bonnet
But due to the extreme reliability of my model S that's all its needed out of warranty at 86k miles and 6 years old now
4 the price of electricity going up is definitely going to hurt the cost of charging at 5.5p/kwh will be 7.5p/ kwh from next month for me this will mean that my 20k miles a year at an average of 3 miles per kwh will go from £367 to £500
It would really hurt if it got up to about 50p/kwh as that would be around price parity with a diesel and I would hate that cost again for sure

As for being well healed I am not badly off but not rich either I work hard on a farm driving tractors for a living and my wife works for the government on an average wage
I would say our household income was very average
Oh and I also have a log burner and oil central heating

2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Auto Tonga Green

We replaced our 62 plate Evoque when a tree fell on it with a hybrid. We used the insurance money to buy a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV 15 plate. The insurance paid out 13k, we bought the Misti for 11k and pocketed the rest.

There is no tax to pay (saving a couple of hundred each year) and it costs £1 to charge fully and gets 20 odd miles till it’s battery is depleted. The mpg is the same using the petrol engine as the Evoke was on all driving but motorways where it is slightly worse than the Ewok. My wife can charge the car at work for free and gets a space easily every day (for the time being).

The hybrid option is working out great for us and I can still work on the nuts and bolts bits if required.
I still prefer driving my old Freely and the Mitsi is not as nice as the Evoke was but financially it makes sense. If we drove a lot of motorway miles an oil burner would still make more sense financially but we don’t.

When the Freely has something major fail I would look to replace with a hybrid/EV if something with similar characteristics exists but at the movement I can’t see what could replace it…………

Not mentioned is the value of your EV after around 7 years as it falls off a cliff due to the need for battery replacement. Roll on hydrogen motors!

I live in SE London in the middle of a Victorian terrace, no driveways, we legally park two wheels on the pavement, barely room at the front for a dustbin so no possibility whatsoever of installing a charging point. Bearing that in mind everything else becomes irrelevant
