A recent incident where upon some little s**t, decided to help himself or herself, (let’s not be prejudiced here) to the contents of my FL2 whilst parked on my driveway, fortunately, if you can call it that, they did not damage the car as I had inadvertently left it unlocked, which from certain angles at only a short distance away is difficult to tell, so it got me thinking, why my car! then when you think about it, mirrors folded back, LOCKED, mirrors in normal position UNLOCKED and theirs probably a number of Neanderthals that realise that, mind you there are a number of other car manufactures that do the same.

So I have come up with a simple no cost idea that I for one can tell at a glance whether or not the car is locked.

Just behind the mirror casing there is a small raised plastic feature of the main moulding, which I have simply painted with some hi-vis luminous paint, simple eh.[/img] 2008, HSE,auto,S/grey,Alpaca leather with premium pack, bi-xenon.

the paint seems a good idea dont mention locking too often though as everytime you do, poor Avtur feels the need to get out of his comfy chair and check that his car is locked.

i know what you mean when looking a a locked car, the mirrors can deceive and i too have had to take a double look, sometimes finding the keys to press lock a couple more times to make sure  Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I do use the mirrors as a good indication of locked/unlocked ..... but there's nothing like a good tug on the door handle to be sure.

I'm a bit of an insomniac (as you may have noticed from some of my posts) so its not unusual to find me giving the door handles a good night tug at 2 or even 3 in the morning.(very, very sad .... but true) Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor ... but not any more ... ... psst look at my gallery!

I too look at the wing mirrors to tell if the car is locked or unlocked. Another thing to watch out for is if you sit on your keys and accidently press down the 'unlock' button for several seconds - all your windows will come thus any passing can lean in and help themselves to your belongings, or as I found out in my BMW with the same feature, let the rain in overnight!!  Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black

If I need to, I always look to see if the alarm warning lamp is blinking or not to see if Freely is locked or not

Same here, even do the double lock.

It is mentioned earlier in this forum that we should lock the car to get the "computer" in the sleep state, not to discharge the battery. Therefor I always lock (almost) my car, even if I'm home. I can see the light blinking and I can often hear that the mirror "slapping" together. (God hearing ) .

Unfortunately, sometimes I lock with the back facing the car. Not sure thats quite true . But if you first unlock the car and do not open anything then it will lock itself withing two mins  2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

You're right Andy. I also use the mirrors as an indication to whether the car is locked.  Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass

doesn't help when you have press them button to bring the mirrors in manually
