Caught up in the diesel-gate scandal, Daimler (owner of Mercedes) pays $1.5bn in fines and $700m in compensation rather than fight it out in court.

VW continue to drag UK claimants through the courts despite paying up in other countries

“Whilst in many other jurisdictions, Volkswagen have admitted cheating emissions tests and have paid out billions of pounds in fines and settlements, they nevertheless continue to fight this drawn-out legal battle in the UK and, rather than taking the sensible approach and seeking to resolve these matters, have opted to bring an application seeking to dismiss some of the claims being made by our clients.” Jules

Indeed, I am in a group of claimants and had the same email from the solicitors, it is typical of the U.K. consumer protection law that companies see us in the U.K. as an easy target for ignoring complaints and issues with products, the first country to get a settlement was the good’old US of A………who’d have guessed? Lovely i6 has now gone, but not me......

Please let me know if anything in my post offends you, as I may wish to offend you again......

Yes, VAG have shown utter contempt for the UK customer and hope to use legal loopholes to get out of paying what is a trifling sum compared to the fines etc they've been forced to pay elsewhere. Jules

If the legal team working for VW is who I think it is then the litigants have a fight on their hands

Volkswagen loses bid to have “deceit” clause in Dieselgate lawsuit dismissed

“It is now incumbent on VW to acknowledge its responsibility in this matter and agree a settlement with all those affected by its actions, as it has done in many other jurisdictions...."

https://www.standard.co.uk/business/vw-die...73284.html

VW has spent about £25 billion globally so far on legal costs and compensation relating to the case. But not a penny has been paid to UK claimants, with VW insisting on going to court rather than doing the honourable thing. Jules

Volkswagen to pay out £193m in 'dieselgate' settlement to 90,000 claimants in England & Wales

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-61581251

The claim, which lawyers said would have been the biggest ever brought by a group of consumers in the UK, was due to go to trial in January 2023. Jules
