I decided against the shower option when I bought mine for that very reason - I went with the walk-in bath instead as I found I didn’t need so much headroom either Rolling with laughter

England 2007 Freelander 2 i6 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

Spent Saturday and Sunday doing around 550 miles in our new to us i6.

Visited number two daughter and her family in Leeds, leaving the Stansted area at 0600 on Saturday. The A1 was full of rain, spray and wind.

Sunday lunch time we left to cross the Pennines to briefly drop off some furniture with number three daughter in Salford. The M62 was full of traffic so Mrs Waze took us on a very nice detour through the Calder Valley, which was full of snow.

We then left Salford around 1600, expecting at first to go down the M6, but Mrs Waze then had a change of mind and we retraced our steps along the M62, then down the A1, arriving home, somewhat exhausted, at 2000.

This was the first really long journey we had done in the i6 since we bought it two weeks ago. It was comfortable, felt secure and behaved well in all the conditions we were faced with. The ABS kicked in once on fresh snow in suburban Manchester and that was it. The windscreen washer was used heavily and did sterling work keeping both front and rear screens clear.

We noted a couple of things. It appears that the drivers seat does not go quite as far back on it's runners as the passenger seat. Is this usual or do I need to investigate for foreign objects in the runners? The second thing is minor, in that SWMBO did not like the fact that the seat runner strengthening bar that runs between the front of both runners precluded her from having her heels right back when she wished to bring her legs back to change position; not much that can be done about that! (We both have our seats as far back as we can).

Overall, nicely satisfied with the FL2. We were grateful not to have been in our XK for the two days we were away. It would have been too low in all the spray and traction in the snow is not at all good.

I do find with my seat, with the setting at high it doesn't go so far back!
seems to be a bit of a compromise, so lower setting and further back it goes. DAVE.

Took it to the local paintless dent repair place to see what damage the weekends hail had caused.

Would you believe $3000 with just a cursory glance!

No wonder so many perfectly good vehicles get written off.

Now I have to ponder the decision of claiming on my insurance v loss of value due to the hail damage.

As I managed to write off my wife’s MX-5 last month, it’s not something I’m looking forward to.

So I did as was suggested & put in an insurance claim. The insurance company wanted me to take it to their hail assessment company (which had set up a tent city locally, to cope with all the hail damaged cars). After walking around the car twice, the inspector tells me it has damage on every panel (a total lie) & would cost more to repair than it was worth & that it would be a total loss! There then followed a heated discussion about his ancestry & did he need to go to specsavers. Anyhow, to cut a long story short, the insurance company have declared it a total loss & today have offered a payout of $12805.00. I can buy it back for the salvage value of $1800.00 & keep driving it. Of course the insurance then gets cancelled & I can only now insure for third party property damage.
As I was planning on selling in the not too distant future, this is probably quite a good outcome, as I don’t think I’d have got that much for it in a private sale. Of course I am now left with a vehicle that no one will want to buy because it is on the written off vehicle register, which is a shame because it should have years left in yet.
I’m sure there is some sort of scam going on over all these hail damaged cars as well. I saw hundreds parked up, including an as new Audi A5 with 2000km on the clock. I just don’t see how it is not worth repairing the majority of these vehicles, especially when the insurance companies seem to be paying out fair prices for them as total losses.

(Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

I don’t know. The original would start the car and lock it but not unlock it. I have a new fob now, still have the old one just thought it would be my luck that the other one would pack up over Xmas.

Bought one! Well yesterday but still. She’s a 2007 GS, one owner from new and an almost perfect service history.

Previously had a D3 but no longer needed a vehicle of that size so downsized to a GLA then a Q3 but missed the character of a Land Rover.

Already replaced the rear wiper arm and blade, both the air filter and the cabin filter (which was disgusting) and ordered a few bits to bring the interior back up to scratch.

I am going down the rabbit hole of buying things I think I need...new silver side vents from Powerfuluk, half height dog guard (Duckworths vie Ebay), new boot struts (QH QTS828378 from ebay and are perfect). Also got some metal teeter surrounds fron Powerful. Hope everyone has a good Christmas, if I don't post again before!
