A split hose will cause a loss in power and quite likely a whistle as well. Not necessarily a lumpyness or misfire. A good check around the turbo and intercooler hoses should show up a problem of that nature.

with the engine cool, I have now identified the fault, it is a split intercooler hose, its only been on 1½ years and covered 2000 miles, the problem seems to be the pulley at the bottom of the engine (aircon?) nudging forward and cutting the pipe like a bench saw . . . .I specifically had the lower engine mount changed to try to prevent this happening.

Did you fit a genuine hose or an aftermarket one previously? i have seen aftermarket ones are often about 15/20mm too long, causing the aircon pulley to damage that lower hose. after market I believe, I see your point, but still feel the hose needs to be somehow propped away from the pulley be it genuine or cheap 2017 SEAT Ateca 4drive 2.0 xcellence (May 2022 -

If the lower mount has already been replaced then it shouldn’t be an issue. If you compare genuine with aftermarket hoses there can be quite a difference & as I said cutting off 15/20mm off the short end will allow the hose plenty of clearance (or just buy a genuine hose). You only need this one, unless the small one is a bit dodgy as well!

got this problem fixed, just to reiterate, the car had a severe intermittent / hesitant / misfire engine feeling, no engine light or limp mode, intercooler pipe had a clear split in it, new genuine part fitted and problem now gone . . . ![]() ![]() 2007 HSE with HST bodykit in Zermatt Silver 169,700 miles (dec 2016 - May 2022 ) 2007 Honda Civic Type S GT (2012-2017) 2002 Mini Cooper S (2008-2012) 1992 Honda Legend 3.2i (2003-2008) 1990 Honda Concerto (1999-2003) 1985 Honda Accord (1997-1999) 1983 Honda Accord (1993-1997) 1983 Mini Mayfair (1988-1993) 1974 Mini 1000 (1979-1986) |

I bought a cheap hose at £12, waste of time and money. It was too long and diameters too small when trimmed. Ended up butchering it to patch the old one, while a quality silicone one arrived from

Thats exactly my worry ![]() ![]() I put some silicone spray on the inside and heated it in hot water as well which didn't make any difference or maybe not enough of either... Managed to find a post from ages ago about the oil so no issues there. Many thanks! |
