Unhitching trailer today it bounced up and made contact with tailgate. Small dent and paint scratched , f@#ked off! 😖 Don't think it's a dent master type repair?

I have a dent like that just behind a rear wheel arch… had my tailgate repaired and repainted for about £700. I lightheartedly said to the estimator at the bodyshop, “while you have the paint out, can you fix the little dent?"

Wanted just shy of £200, mostly because of the size of the panel that would need to be 'blended in'. I declined on that one but they made a nice job of the tailgate.

That a real pain but a good paintless dent repairer should be able to get the dent out either glue tab and pull or remove tailgate inner plastic trim and get his rods in that way if not smart repair there is a natural line to stop at so not the whole tailgate would need painting

Yep used a paintless dent remover before who was very good but paintwork not damaged before. Thinking o will get away with painting up to the crease above the badges so might not bee so bad. Well off work this week and decided to finally tackle the timing belt that's been sitting on a garage shelf for 18 months now.
Also needed a set of rear discs so I picked those up during the week, already had the pads, so I thought!. Went to change them this morning to find I had the wrong pads, obviously for the earlier non electric handbrake version. No big issue, moved on to the timing belt.
This fought me every step of the way and took way longer than it should. Access to fittings seemed awkward. The starter motor was a pure b'stard to get out. Faffed about getting the turbo intake pipework off and the top belt cover off. Big hands and small spaces don't help. Next headache was getting the locking pins in place, don't know how many times I rotated the crank to get the cam pulley lined up, then when I got that in it was really fiddly to fit the flywheel pin, needing a fair bit of jiggling back and forward of the crank bolt. A helper would have been great. Then the starter ring gear locking plate. (Not sure why you need to lock the flywheel AND the starter ring gear?)
Finally got it all locked and tried to undo the crank bolt. I have a Ryobi impact wrench that I didn't think would be up to the task, it wasn't. Out with the breaker bar, extensions etc. It fought and fought until half way out and I was concerned it was taking so much force that the bolt would shear. Tried winding it back in and again it wouldn't budge. Oh f#@k. I was using a 22mm 12 point socket which then appeared to be slipping on the head of the bolt.
Borrowed no 1 son's car, went and bought a 22 mm deep impact socket 6 sided. Came back with it, put it on the impact driver and managed to tighten it back up. Then by a forward and backwards process managed to get it out at last! I was really worried that bolt was going to break off which would have been a total ballache.
Got the timing belt off, water pump out and replaced and new belt back on. Had a bit of fun getting the tensioner in place but in the end all good.
Next issue was replacing the auxiliary belt, despite much head scratching I could not get the belt back on the pulleys in the right sequence. Haynes diagram does not match my car. So at that stage I left it. I'll finish it off tomorrow, all being well!

The hated bolt!

Well all done and back together, aux belt only took about 10 minutes this morning!
Got the correct rear pads as well so changed those and the rear discs.
Total price including Gates timing belt kit, locking tools, 5 litres of coolant, rear discs and pads about £220. My labour = free.

Standard 4 pin relay, took switched live from the sidelight circuit so fogs can be on with sidelights right through to main beam. Switch to right side of steering wheel. I'll take a picture tomorrow. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Fog light switch. Illuminated when on, you can see glow from switch but not actually in your sight from behind the wheel, it's quite bright.
