Completed my low-cost exterior lighting upgrade on my MY09 2.2TD HSE… I have now added night breaker headlight bulbs, LED puddle lights and DRL.

A few members on this forum have mentioned Powerful UK, and I had a browse… Replacing the entire headlamp units was too eye-watering a cost for me, and rather than add further lighting under the grill or drilled into the bumper, I went for their kit converting the front fog lights to fog light/DRL, complete with dimming of the DRL when side/headlights are on, and turning off each side DRL with the same side indicator.

This is the product I went for: https://www.powerfuluk.com/vehicles/land-r...l-kit.html

The listing has a 30 minute or so video which covers the whole unpack and install process - extremely informative step-by step guide - just as well as I’m no engineer, least of all where electrical comes in to play.

I had a spare day and the shelter to work under, so I propped up the iPad under the bonnet, took my time, about 90 minutes all in - with the headlamps both out, access to everything was very easy, and I am sure that someone knowing what they are doing would be much quicker than I was at getting this job completed.

The original fog lamps came straight out, the new units went straight in, connected up to the car loom and to their circuit board as the video showed, and it all worked first time, just like Powerful’s video showed at the end. While the DRL-dim function with side/headlights on is necessary as the DRL lamps are very bright, I'm not sure the cut-out of the DRL function with indicators is really necessary on Freelander 2 as they are quite a bit lower than the indicators, but I wired mine anyway...

Very gratifying to have done this myself without any trouble - all we need now is lockdown to lift and I can actually put them to more practical use than they are right now!! Rolling Eyes Lexus RX450H - 500 mile a week commuter- I just couldn’t trust in a newer RRS or DS for that….
2009 Freelander 2 HSE... 155K miles, we’ve done 135k of those, has done brilliantly on the commute and staying firmly put as car two in the household
2002 Jaguar XK8 Coupe... fun, fast, ours for 12 years and owes us nothing - so staying with us too…

New boots all round - went with Cross Climates. Had them on a Subaru Forester before we bought the Freelander, very impressed and decent wear out of them. Not the cheapest tyre out there but guess you get what you pay for

Finally got round to changing boot light for an LED bulb (what a fiddle), and changed the drivers door body seal.
Bit chilly out, so I’ll leave giving it a wash ‘til tomorrow. Rolling Eyes

Went and collected a trailer full of logs, on some snowy back roads, terrain response coming in useful 👍. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Glow plugs - almost

Finished the disassembly to replace the glow plugs. LR engineers really do have diabolical minds. Will post some pics in the appropriate threads to fill in some gaps in the instructions.
Hope they turn out to be the solution for my starting problem.

Thumbs Up hope it goes well.

Does the FL2 throw up an error codes if a single glow plug fails? Jules

19" RIMS

Yeh, keep them! Look at it a bit like 4"heels for women, not the best for running in but are there for good aesthetic appearances as well as getting around with! :

Yeh like the look but unfortunately with high heels on she’ll get stuck in the sand or break a heel on the rocky roads of Australia

Might Have to look at fitting 255 55 19’s like Lightwater has suggested

Gave her a Full service ( bar fuel filter as ran out of time) using genuine LR parts from Advanced factors (£123 all in including a new nsf washer jet& 3 new trim clips).

In the process off this, I discovered that:

A) If you slacken the rear most near side bolt in the bash plate and remove all the others and then turn the steering
Left, there’s enough room to swing the bash plate sideways to leave the sump plug accessible saving you manhandling the plate on your back 👍🏻

B) who ever designed the oil filter on the DW12 engine fromits Mondeo to its Freelander location should be hung drawn and quartered... 🤬🤬🤬💩💩💩

C) it appears that everything was nearly 30k overdue...😳😳😳

D) i need some dinitrol and a wire brush in places
