If you indicate in your profile which MYxx car & if the engine is an oil burner or high octane, it would make it easier to help with solutions.

He hasn't yet bought his Freelander 2.

Either the car needs a service or there is too much oil in the sump. A common fault with main stealers is that they put full litres of oil in when the correct amount is 5 1/2 litres (from memory). Take out any oil that is above the maximum mark on the dipstick.

Brazilian tip:

1. Turn on the ignition switch
2. Open the hood
3. Open the driver door
4. Note: Manintenance resetting information is not displayed on the instrument cluster. Fully depress the accelerator pedal, and brake pedal, and hold for 60s.
5. Turn off the ignition switch
6. Turn on the igntion switch and check whether manintenance information is cleared
7. If maintenance information is not cleared, repeat the procedure.

This just worked for me, thank you

I'll be doing this again tomorrow. Richard M

It isn’t necessary to have the bonnet and door open:

1. switch on the ignition, but don’t start the engine
2. fully depress brake pedal and throttle pedal and hold until “i” is extinguished in central display - it may take up to a minute
3. switch off ignition
