Impending Purchase - decent price ?

hello Freelander folk Smile

just on the point of taking the plunge and buying a 2010 GS auto with just over 25000 on the clock;

looks immaculate in the pictures (don't they all...) and has a full annual service history (by date, not mileage, one owner from new - same garage)

selling IRO £12k - does that sound about right ?

guide on the LR website for PartEx is £9350, and it seems a fair enough figure based on others that are/have been on the market

looking forward to getting back in to the LR thing, having had a D2 for twelve years - cost a fortune to run but loved it anyway - hoping for a slightly less financially crippling experience to come (apart from witless expenditure on upgrades and accessories, obviously), so is that sort of mark for a start off decent enough ??

any thoughts very much appreciated - thanks in advance Wink

I don’t know about the price but it’s an unusual colour I do like the look of it.

IMHO the question you are asking is the price difference between a higher spec, same year, higher mileage car worth £8000 less than a 25k miles vehicle.
I paid £4500 for my 2010 hse TD4e, 150k miles, albeit 20 months ago.
Yes the car will be in overall better condition ( bodywork interior etc), however the weak points in these cars seem to be the drive train, which at 25k miles MAY start to fail in the near future ( seems to be around 50k miles ), whereas a higher mileage vehicle has probably had some / most of these issues sorted. 8k also leaves a lot of change for future repairs, which will inevitably be required.
Perhaps a car somewhere in the middle of the price range and mileage may be the way to go?
Good luck whatever you decide 👍

Somewhere between the two options, check the service fully, has it had the heldex etc done? if not they could cost you a lot. Common sense isn't very common.

grand answer - thank you - hafta admit to being seduced by the low mileage, and the colour (what a tart !); the same dealer has an '08 HSE for around £11k but with 45k on the clock - and it's grey - shall take a look at that at the same time.... Wink

thanks for answering - when you say has the haldex been done, do you mean the 20k oil and filter change, or is there something other than that required ? - i have the contact details for the garage who have serviced it to date, so I'll check and see if it has been sorted - if not, for the sake of being 5k over the recommended interval, maybe I'll push to have that done by the current vendors - as well as the annual service which is also due - to seal the deal....

Hi,

for me the main Question is HOW has the mileage been done,

if they nip the sprogs 1 mile down the road each day, walk away, nothing has ever got warm its worn out and clogged up Laughing
if they use it once a month for a 100 mile trip to their Sunseeker95 moored up somewhere then a might be interested Exclamation

doing that sort of mileage they should have had 5.0 petrol engine Cool not a diesel anyway

Thumbs Up .
my first ever FL2 and I did keep it longer than most other cars!
But its now gone way up Norf

fifty mile round trip once a week to the local dogging hotspot I reckon (they're somewhere in Essex) - might mean that there is excessive wear to the rear suspension, indelible handprints to the d-post at the back and maybe a slight indentation to the front of the bonnet from summer excursions/exertions

staring to think twice about the cloth interior now - leather might have cost a few quid extra, but at least it's wipe-clean.... Shocked

There are lots of thing that should have been replaced by age not mileage that is what you need to check. Common sense isn't very common.

For that kind of price at that age I’d prefer a top of the range with goodies and another full service history if possible, I’d rather it had done 100K than 10K Regards

David

Lovely i6 has now gone, but not me......

Please let me know if anything in my post offends you, as I may wish to offend you again......

United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Rimini Red

I'd go for a higher spec, higher mileage version, for less money.
When I was looking, I rejected anything below SE spec, simply because I knew I'd rather sort out potential mechanical issues, in preference to wishing I'd bought a vehicle with more toys.
As these vehicles are capable of 300k miles or more, I really can't see the point in spending more money, on a low mileage one, when a cheaper high mileage one will likely be issue free. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Fuji White

As already said above,

Think of what spec suits the FL2, to my mind the SD4 (with Auto) allows you to glide around making the best use of the superb driving position and comfort.

Look carefully at what standard or extra features are on the FL2 in question, as many FL2s were 'speced up' by the original owners.

AND most important - Provenance - has it got a believable documented history, and do you trust the seller. - the FL2 is a complicated machine which requires regular, reliable, servicing.

A nice one may be worth considering, even at a slightly higher price. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)
