Rear Differential

Hi.

The diff’s gone for the second time in my Freelander 2’s 138,000 mile lifespan.

Has anyone sourced a company to buy from that won’t leave me weeping?

Been quoted £600 so far (just for the unit) which is cheaper than the £700 I paid the first time around.

Cheers,

Andy

Where did you get the first one from? maybe it is still under warranty?

I can't vouch for longevity, been running on my recon rear diff now for 3-4 weeks, but I got mine from freelanderspecialist.com and their customer service is unparalleled and the warranty is 24 months. I also thought their price was very good and I had it shipped to Canada.

Bell Engineering is another option but I was not able to get them to successfully ship to me. They have a very good reputation on this forum.

I think the one that I replaced may have been the original, 200,000 kms on it.

I got it from Bristol Transmissions but it will be long out of warranty Sad They quoted me £500 plus VAT.

Thought I'd close this off.

It turned out to be the transfer box. Got a reconditionaed one from wearediffs.com for £445.

Then also found out I needed a new rear drive shaft too Sad

...BUT all sorted (at least the drive train is...there's now a power loss under acceleration problem!)

There's always something!

Andy

Could you please tell me if those refurbished units from WeAreDiffs worked out well for you? Are they reliable? I've heard of BellEngineering, but they don't have the differential I need in stock. MY2011 TD4 S Manual

I used Freelanderspecialist.com 3+ years ago and their customer service was spectacular.

I tried Austin first but he had issues when he tried shipping to Canada.

Yes, I talked to Freelanderspecialist.com, but they also don't have a PTU for my Freelancer in their stock (I would have to wait for the restoration of my own unit). That's why I asked about WeAreDiffs; they claim to have been around for quite a while (25 years?), but there aren't many reviews about them. MY2011 TD4 S Manual

Freelander has long gone now, but they were fine. No issues with the box whilst I owned the car.

Only slight issue I had was with the collection of the old transfer box (they deliver a new one and you give them the old one). I got a call to say the crate that was delivered back to them was empty.

I spoke to my garage and they were absolutely adamant they had packed it because they asked the driver to help them load it into the van…they even went off the find the CCTV footage of them loading it, but when I spoke to wearediffs, they accepted what I was saying and I heard nothing more.
