Manufacturers use a rolling road to measure fuel consumption, which obviously doesn't have hills or wind resistance.

Its not just JLR -its all manufactures. These figures are based on standardised tests designed by the testing organisations not the manufacturer. Its not just about MPG its also about pollution (CO2 and NOx)

The only way I could achieve the MPG LR say my FL2 should do would be to get out and push it

I drive gentle but get around 43-46 mpg according to the dashboard. Most of my driving is motorway based and cruise along at 60 ish. |

I believe that when a manufacturer measures engine HP and torque they do it on a bench with a dynamometer and with no alternator or aircon or gearbox or anything else that isn't necessary to make it go. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

BHP is normally quoted at the flywheel, torque is somewhat different as it can increase due to gearing but hopefully it is at the flywheel then with an auto in low gear it is much higher at the wheels my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Actually the FL2 kerb weight is only around 1800kg The 2500kg is its gross vehicle weight (ie the maximum it is allowed to weigh fully loaded) We get 34mpg pootling around our home area. Cruising through the miles of roadworks on the M6 at 50mph I got 42MPG. I find as soon as I go over 2000rpm the fuel consumption goes way up. Jules |

I manage to get 7.8L/100km (36.2 mpg) with a petrol engine with a 500kg payload, the spare wheel, awning & other stuff in the roof, wind deflectors & mud flaps.
