Chinese Audio Text

Playing an audio book in mp3 format from a USB stick the screen shows all the disc and track info in Chinese characters. Any idea how to fix this.

Does this happen only with this audiobook or all of them? Have you tried a different audiobook on the USB stick?

Just tried the one. I'll check the others. It could be that the disc and track info is being stored by Windows in an 8 bit character set and the infotainment software can only handle 7 bit character sets since its over 6 years old. I doubt the system has any sort of update since new.

Similar experience with some of the uploaded CDs that show little more than track number, no narrative such as artists name, title. Someone told me it was down to how the CD had been encrypted? and there's nothing can be done.

They (the CD's) are likely missing from the gracenote database Sid

That chinese data from mp3's is likely pulled from the tags - check those - Gracenote won't be involved in those 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 Manual Dynamic

That's what someone must have meant by 'encrypted'

The problem is that the MP3 ID3 tags can be saved with many different character encodings, for example ISO 8859-1 or CP1251 but iOS does not support them. It knows only unicode UTF-16 and “thinks” they are UTF-16 when it reads and displays tags.

It seems that this is a common problem, look at posts in google search below-

I got the Mp3tag software and followed the instructions from Pete32 https://www.macanforum.com/threads/how-to-...es.155754/

My files had these tags before I changed anything
