I will certainly do that - but it has to be VAT registered garage serviced for the next 2 years as we have a 2 year LR warranty, so it may be a while before I see it.

I am just planning ahead and I always like to get to know my cars before I need to start servicing them ............. and I don't like being beholden to the main dealer, especially not when they make it so hard on purpose - that makes we want to go somewhere else.

Also what annoys me about main dealer is that even charging what they do, they don't use LR's recommended oil. they use "Mobile C1" - no idea which variant. I'm sure it's fine, but if I am paying a premium price, I expect recommended and premium oil.

Reset Service Required for MY13 onwards

I had the car in for a major service with my independent mechanic.

When I picked up the car he had cleared the Service Required. Not that I really noticed this anyway!

I asked him how he did it to pass on the information.

He was not 100% sure but here are the following notes:

1. Start car but without engine running
2. Press in Trip button on stalk & also press the Down Arrow on the steering wheel on the right hand side (button with OK) for at least 10 seconds simultaneously

He may have been somewhere in the service menu, but not sure where.

I asked to make sure that this was done without any diagnostic equipment. He said no equipment was used.

Someone may want to fiddle around with this who still has the Service Required on the dash & take notes while you are at it! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Bit late to the party, but just done a major service on my 2012 FL2 ( 1YR since I bought it), and the Brazilian Method works for the oil service message.

Can you clarify the "TURN ON/OFF IGNITION SWITCH"? What is that?
Do you mean "Put the keyfob in / take out of the ignition slot?"

Thanks Embarassed

As stated before I cleared the message around 5yrs ago & it has never appeared ever again, unlike the yearly service reminder that pops up every year.

It means insert the keyfob, do not depress brake/clutch pedal & press start button. That will turn the power on but not start the engine. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

If you indicate in your profile which MYxx car & if the engine is an oil burner or high octane, it would make it easier to help with solutions. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
