Apple CarPlay 2014MY - Almost Working

In short, our car runs WinCE and Autolink Kit have a WinCE app to use with the dongle.

Brazil Freelander 2 contains an SD Card under the passenger's seat which can be read by any computer.

It runs an Igo Primo GPS and you can replace the SD Card with another one with contains a file named navi.exe which will be executed when you hit Nav in the screen.

So far I have the app working and the dongle in hand but the USB port only allows 500ma while the Carlink dongle requires 1amp.

I'm going to buy or make a powered USB cable tomorrow and see what happens.

Here is a few pictures of what I found so far playing around with the car, I could even run the notepad in the screen Rolling with laughter

PS: At least one UK fellow reported that their version does not use an SD Card and does not have the same module as mine, not sure about other places.

Some of the screens I have no idea how I went to them, especially the testing one.

The Carplay WinCE app does open and responds to the touch.

Although the USB dongle requires at least 1amp and when it tries to start the Carplay on iPhone, the iPhone reports that something didn't work.

Probably because of the low amperage available, now I'm going to try to build a energized USB cable to have enough energy for the dongle but still connected to the car, wish me lucky.

The energized cable made no difference, I'm guessing that the app is unable to find the USB dongle.

I'm going to try to contact the Carlinkit support, if anyone has any idea of how to check if the car computer is being able to connect to the USB, it would be helpful.

It is working because I can listen to my iPhone music using the USB port, something is going on with the Chinese carplay application.

Here some pictures of the app running and from the module we have under the passenger's seat.

Seems like my dongle is faulty, it is not working in the WinCE emulator either but I'm not sure if it should.

When the dongle is connected to a Windows machine it keeps appearing and disapperiang from the "devices control center" of Windows.

Looks like it is stuck in a loop trying to boot or something.

I remember it worked in an Android running on RPI3 but I no longer have it.

Waiting for a new one to arrive and I will keep this updated.

Today I managed to get the control panel and explorer to run but apparently I can't see my USB device connected to the car, not sure if that means I can't access the USB port from the GPS yet.

Okay, well, you've piqued my interest enough that I've bought a 10E887 module!

Looking at the wiring harness (L405) there is no data link between the IAM and 'ASIA' Nav Unit. The only communication method is the medium speed CANBus which can't sustain USB data connection. Plugging the dongle into the cars USB ports wont affect the ASIA Nav Module.

So I opened up the module. There are a hand full of JTAG programming headers (red), but more critically, there is a USB connector INSIDE the case (green). A quick cut should make the connector accessible in the car.

I'd be really interested to know where you get the "iGO Primo" software from, my unit didn't come with the SD Card.

Vanny,

What do we know about the audio between this module and the car?

The GPS itself does not have anything critical but if we make carplay work for instance, how would the audio connection be made? Would it support full quality to play the surround system?

I managed to run https://www.android-x86.org in an old computer here to make sure that the dongle is working and it is.

Next step: remove the module from the car and try to use its USB port.

Update: The GPS module acts as a slave USB device and not master, meaning that we can connect to the module but the module can't connect to the dongle (or a pen drive, for instance).

There is a small switch that exposes the module as one device to my notebook and doesn't boot in the car and the other way around it identifies as another device and does boot.

The USB port doesn't have any voltage but even using a powered USB cable does not make it work because of the master/slave thing.

Vanny, looks like you bought the right module, board looks exactly the same.

I wonder if it needs a USB OTG (on the go) adapter. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a way to get the board to supply power to the port, or perhaps a hidden port (maybe one of the highlighted connectors).

OTG made no difference even powering the device externally.

Any other tries? There is any way to check if any of those ports are in fact an USB port? Freelander 2 2014 SD4 Automatic HSE Fuji White

Unfortunately, I've never even got the module plugged in. Far to busy with paid work to tinker these days Sad
