Power washers are quite unnecessary for car cleaning especially when wearing flip-flops

High pressure water will penetrate areas that a hose will not, causing premature corrosion and possibly other damage. In winter the high pressure jet may enter locks and other poorly protected areas and possibly cause freezing and corrosion and also possibly cause damage to rubber sealings around doors etc.

Hand washing with a normal hose, is not only safer for the car, it is more environmentally friendly (incl. less noise) and safer to exposed toes when using flip-flops  2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

i disagree

a standard pressure washer will use less water than a open hosepipe, try it by timing a full bucket fill with each method

the HP water will force dirt off the vehicles paintwork leaving less contaminants to inflict scratches and swirl marks on the cars paintwork, so is better for the car

using two buckets of water to then clean the car (one clean/one wash n wax) and a microfibre noodle or wool wash mitt

the less you have to come into contact with the paint the better

obviously common sense where you spray HP water, such as locks & engine bays

Never power wash a combine harvester before putting into storage as it will be seized up when you try and use it again. The water gets into the bearings you see.
Wash it a week before you use it and grease all the bearings after washing.

The amount of water used is not an environmental problem (we got plenty of the stuff). However if all your neighbours were using noisy electric appliances on a Sunday morning when you were having a lie in – That might count as an environmental problem

A real problem is getting water into the brakes which may freeze up during our periods of cold nights, particular if the car is left parked for several days. Power washers are more likely to penetrate the brake system than a hose wash. The same problem may also apply to the door (or boot) locking mechanism or/and the rubber seals. In addition if water penetrates any metal compartment and does not have the possibility to dry quickly (in summer time or parked in a warm garage) then corrosion will start almost immediately. As a cars weather proofing is designed to withstand normal water pressure from the weather and normal washing with a low pressure appliance, it makes sense that any use of a high pressure appliance will certainly increase the chance of corrosion or freezing in cold weather.
