United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 GS Auto Orkney Grey

Wow you change your cars regulalry Shocked
The Freelander is only my second car since 2006, although thats because I held on to my Disco 2 for so long because I loved it so much. I still occasionally look in on the D2BC forum which had like minded enthusiasts such as we have on here. I dont see me changing the Freelander (2014 and now on 65k miles) any time within the next 4 years or so, and like many Im wondering what it will be replaced with.... Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Yep i admit to being picky when it comes to cars - as soon as it has a problem (or i think it has 1) i start looking for a replacement Rolling Eyes

I look back on some of my previous cars and wonder why i got rid, sometimes i buy another of the same model (2 Polo GTs, 2 Golf MK7 GTs, 2 Leon FRs, etc) not remembering why and with the new same model it comes back and i get rid again

I did have a previous FL2 which was a 2009 pre facelift which i had the new front end fitted, got rid of that when i had 1 problem after another - remote fob, throttle body and another couple of things failing each week.

Yep i checked cazana and totalcarcheck to see if it's still on the same plate, etc

It had around 34-35k on it when i traded it in so must be running fine.
I did leave the invoices in the handbook pack showing it had the services, filters, oils changed a few weeks before so the new owner would have bought it knowing nothing needed doing for a while

Had a Peugeot 504 for 18 of its last 25 years, Seat Ibiza for 18 years, each did over 250k km & engines were still good & intend to keep the Freelander until I need a wheelchair!

I did a lot of modifications to the Pug, not many to the Seat, but maybe as many mods to the Freelander as the Pug, just a bit different including height adjustable rear shocks on the Pug with on-board air.

Can't see the point of changing cars if they do the job! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Not too many cars with air shocks in those days let alone onboard air, CD player was the first one available added to already ridiculously expensive KEF hi-fi & dark velour ceiling. The CD player was mounted in an overhead custom built centre console! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I can’t disagree with the sentiment that the FL2 was the last proper 4x4 built by LR. No idea why, because it’s boxy? because it feels solid? because the load space is practical? because it feels like it will go damn near anywhere and get you back?
The DS is proving reliable, has a useful load space and seems capable- give her another 100,000 miles and a few modifications and I might like her as much as the FL2.
Why do some of us keep coming back here? Freelander owners seem to be of the mentality -it’s broke, how do I fix it? Rather than it’s broke- therefore it’s crap, let’s slag off LR, the dealers, and anyone associated with it. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

The D4 met all the criteria of “proper Land Rover” and that carried on into 2016 when the Discovery was, for all intents and purposes, discontinued 🙁

I stand corrected the D4 fills the 4X4 roll admirably, capable, cavernous practical. Possibly reliable, my definition being she will get you there and back, maybe limping but .....

Never driven a D4, had a D5 for a few weeks recently and was totally unimpressed, despite all the amazing toys, comfort and elevated driving position. Unwieldy, barge like and the electrics randomly worked. I accept that it's like comparing a FL1 to a FL2. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
