There was a letter in the FT last week from a medic who said that determining the actual cause of death to put on a death certificate is quite difficult when you have a patient with a number of ailments and that most will be a best guess at which ailment was the "final straw". I guess that Covid 19 might be the default option in a lot of non hospital cases. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Here is a link to the official Office for National Statistics (MSoft EXCEL) figures.

Although they are about 1 to 2 weeks behind they do show a breakdown of all deaths in England and Wales.

They also show comparisons of totals for 2020 and the last 5 years total. This last figure will prove how many extra deaths are occurring, and the whole total is more accurate than the Gov Briefing 'instant' figures.

Govt Briefing figures only include those tested positive for coronavirus, which are mainly hospital only at the moment.

Thus the important figure really is how many excess deaths are there per day over the normal rate for the population given that some people are dying of corona who might have died of something else very soon anyway?

2019-20 Australian fires had 34 direct deaths, but there were 417 deaths above the normal death rate including things like heat stress, smoke inhalation, cardiovascular issues pushing people over the line. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Seemingly we need about a 60% immunity within the population as a whole for herd immunity to be effective, Though I originally read it was 80%. Either way we are still a long way from achieving that, even if the number of known cases is a gross underestimate. Jules

Virtual Journeys from Dash Cam

I know it sounds desperate, but as we have the 12 week Isolation from the NHS, we are missing our jaunts across country to local market towns, so we are considering 'raiding' the dash cam for any footage of our favourite places and journeys.

I will start tomorrow, hopefully everything has been working in the last couple of weeks of car usage. (now sometime ago)

Although life is beginning to feel like living on a Martian outpost, I am hoping that by the late summer they will allow us to have a drive or two into the country, even if we can't stop. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

This is the Wikipedia entry for the Gatestone Institute

Gatestone Institute is a far-right think tank known for publishing anti-Muslim articles.[a][2][3][4][5] It was founded in 2008 by Nina Rosenwald, who serves as its president.[6] Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and former[7] national security advisor, John R. Bolton, was its chairman from 2013 to March 2018. Its current chairman is Amir Taheri.[8][9][10][11]
Gatestone is anti-Muslim group.[a][12] The organization has attracted attention for publishing false or inaccurate articles, some of which went viral.[13][14][15][16][17]

So I think you have to be careful that you are not taken in by false propaganda.

It's always worth looking up who the source is and who is paying for it's upkeep. (and of course who is checking the Wikipedia entries)

In all seriousness, looks like a lot of well informed people were aware of the dangers of this virus but I think most countries relied on China to handle it internally for the most part. That sure did not go well.

Gun sales across the USA went up 100% in recent months.

Copy from above link:
'Sweeping travel restrictions have been in place since last month in California, which is grappling with one of the worst outbreaks of coronavirus in America. As of 11 April, the state reported 21,794 cases and 651 fatalities.'

In 2018 California had 3453 gun deaths, so at 651 Coronavirus deaths they are doing well! Should be focusing more on guns! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
