United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Orkney Grey

Hello Gunbus,

It was an Inchcape Franchised Landrover dealership, the sales person looked like a they’d just finished college, though was probably older. They hadn’t got a clue about Land Rovers generally, didn’t seem interested in our requirements, and had an affected attitude of superiority, of the, ‘you are lucky I can be bothered to serve you today’ variety.

When my wife challenged the trade in price, the response was ‘well thats what it’s worth to us, it’s too old for us to sell, so we’ll just pass it on to the trade. Whether it’s worth it to you, depends on how much you want the new car.’

‘Not that much’ was the wife’s reply and we promptly left.

The Freelander cost just a little less than £36K when I bought it new in 2014, so I was a little taken aback at the low trade in offer, for a six year old, full dealer service history, low mileage car.

Happy to keep it now.

Inchcape Yorkshire currently have three Freelander 2 for sale, 12,13 and 14 plate cars at £12,382 £15,491 and £15,962 respectively all with higher mileage than your car, you should give the sales manager a call and point this out to him.
It would be interesting to find out how he justified your £4k px offer. 94 Disco 300 TDI Gone

Surely he meant 14 instead of 4.

And hopefully once the Sales Manager is aware that one of his arrogant protégés has cost the business a sale, he will give him the tin-tack! That will wipe the smug superior smile off his face I should think..... Laughing

Hello GundogSD4,

Thanks for looking into the prices for me. It’s really useful to know, and much appreciated.

It was actually the Chester branch we visited whilst we were staying with friends, but it’s very interesting that another branch is selling the ‘Too Old to sell’ Freelanders, for such a significant difference in price from what we were offered.

Based on our recent experience though, I’d never buy any car from them, no matter what they offered me in PX, the customer service is appalling.

Hello All,

Yes £14K would have sounded a lot more reasonable to me as well.

if I ever consider selling the Freelander in future at least now I’ll know the general ball park figure to look for, but I’m keeping it for now.

I’ve have owned two Freelanders, a 2011 SD4 XS and my current 2014 model, both of which I bought from Local dealerships, and have been very happy with.

Prior to that I have owned a couple of Landrover Defenders.

My first was a 1992 Model 110 County Station Wagon 12 seat 200 TDI bought as an ex dealer demonstrator model. Which I worked into the ground, towing both on and off road, but which, other than drinking, oil never complained. ( well if you ignore the rust, and the water ingress, and the noise, and the poor fuel economy, and the cramped driving position, etc etc etc.) still made me smile every morning though, I had all the joys of Land Rover ownership during the week, and the weekends of ‘fixing’ things.

Second was a 2005 Model 110 County Station Wagon 7 seat TD5 bought new.

A serious spinal injury in 2010 caused me to get rid of Defender and buy the first Freelander in 2011, primarily for improved comfort and support for my back and the automatic gearbox. But also as a change of job meant I no longer needed a heavy duty vehicle.

There's your problem. Take it anywhere else and you're guaranteed to be offered more and with better service/manners - the Chester dealership is terrible in every department.
