This bloody thing wouldn't start so steering as heavy as trying to move a 2 tonne boulder. I'm getting to the point now where after these problems I should cut my losses and go buy a Volvo.

I used to drive an old AEC lorry that took just over 16 full turns of the steering wheel to go from lock to lock. There was no power steering and when it was fully loaded it really took some grunt to turn the wheel especially when maneuvering into a tight space and turning the wheel while stationary. When new Michelin X radial ply tyres were fitted it took twice as much effort as with the old cross ply tyres and after a long knackering day I only had the strength to turn the wheel when still moving.

The Pug 504 was 4.5 turns lock to lock. Then the silly owner put wider tyres on it. They looked great, but I needed to do more weight lifting!

Funny this was that in its day a few people who drove the car could not believe how light the steering was! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

My old TVR griffith used to separate my elbow joints when parking. Bloody heavy with no PAS.

When you have PAS fail on a car, it seems even heavier as I found out in my Transam back in the 80s.

It’s a lot heavier when the PAS fails as your also trying to push the fluid through the rack as well...... Regards

Hello everyone,

I’ve just joined the forum today, having been a regular reader for a while. I finally took the plunge and registered. Looking forward to lots of help and guidance.

I currently own a 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 XS, which I’ve owned from new. It has the full Landrover dealer service history, and Landrover extended warranty, which costs me £800 each year with roadside assistance. I initially used the Freelander as my main transport for the first year. Thereafter I’ve used the Freelander as my weekend / holiday ‘second’ vehicle. The Freelander has only covered 30,000 miles, and I’m very pleased to report has suffered no major issues other than having the Haldex Pump replaced under warranty two years ago, with no issues since. The Freelander has only been used on the road and camp sites, and has never towed anything.

I’m currently only covering about 3,000 miles per year in the Freelander, so have had a dealer supplied and fitted Landrover CTEK battery trickle charging accessory installed so it keeps the battery charged and in good condition whilst it’s waiting for it’s next outing. This has been a fantastic addition, as it’s directly wired into the cars electrics, it communicates properly with the battery management system installed on the Freelander.

I have recently been considering selling the Freelander as it’s not used often, and visited a dealer before Christmas to look at the latest vehicles in the Landrover stable. I wasn’t overly impressed with the latest batch of products, all of which were very expensive and overloaded with electronic touch screen everything.

The kicker was the dealer only offered me £4K trade in for the Freelander against what would have been a nearly £60K car.

I walked away and decided to keep the Freelander, if that’s all it’s worth, it’s paid for, it’s comfortable, has been very reliable, and I know all it’s history, as i’ve owned it from new.

Having read a lot of posts on this forum, I know I made the right decision. I’m going to keep the Freelander and enjoy it. I might even start green laneing , any advice re clubs for Off road driving in a Freelander anyone?

£4000 for a 14 plate car with 30k , Was the stealer wearing a mask... Robbing Bast**ds should be ashamed of themselves.
