I know there have been a few posts on this subject but there does not appear to be a resolution as most people just take it to the dealer for a fix.

Pleased to hear you're working again Gasman. I've had this problem for years, Terrain response system fault message on start up, then the light on the terrain sector knob goes out. Doesn't affect the car particularly but it's annoying.

Gasman, mine is the same age and model as yours. I’ve had your error message on the dash twice (in two years of ownership) as a result of stalling in traffic followed by a rapid start to get moving again. I can’t remember if either time gave me a diagnostic error code, but if it did I cleared it with no recurrence. My assumption is that if it tries to start without sufficient boot-up time for all the computer wizardry, it just occasionally results in a start-up error. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto Previously: 2010 MY FL2 TD4e GS - Now gone at 199,500 miles, about 135,000 of them mine. ‘93 Defender 110 200TDi CSW ‘87 Defender 90 4 cyl Petrol ‘83 110 CSW V8 - best ever! It can be something as simple as the abs pump not reaching working pressure at the required point in the startup procedure due to low temperatures. It happens more regularly as the battery ages. |

Last time it happened to me was in the usual summer traffic jam along the sea front at Sainte Maxime on the Cote D’Azur in June, so not exclusively a low temperature issue! 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

That's brilliant …............we have a terrain response system that doesn't like the cold, so snow is out and doesn't like the heat, so sand is out. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

Doesn't like long grass either Mine played up after driving across a field of long grass. Local indy couldn't find a fault but suspected it might have disturbed the Haldex connection. Taking it off and re-fixing seems to have cured it. driving on the right side |

The senser for air pressure flow .Situated at the front of the engine near side near radiater. Pull the connecter out and push it in again. This is on same circuit as terrain system. You may need to replace the senser. This cured the problem on my 2008 TDI 2.2. You can google it and their is a video showing how to do it |
