United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Barolo Black
New member question.

Hello folks, picking up a 2010 FL2 XS next week, does anyone know what type of headlights it will have, ie halogen or HID? Are they any good, I like decent beams for night driving? All the best Mac.

It’ll have halogen lamps.

They aren’t as good as the HID lamps but, as halogens go, mine weren’t bad and they were at least as good as those on my previous Phase II Volvo V70 (and I live in rural Cornwall, so I know that you mean).

Thanks for the reply. Is HID conversion possible, cheap or expensive?

Your halogens are better than the halogens in the later cars, where they use a single HB3 bulb for dipped and main - it burns out quickly and the beam is not as good. Putting in brighter (hotter) bulbs just means they burn out even quicker.

I believe you can replace with HID but its expensive £1000+ I think someone on here mentioned. Jules

I think I will leave them alone then. Cheers for the replies. Lots more questions hopefully not fault related.

For a while JLR offered a resistor wire modification for late models, in response to customer complaints, to reduce current to the HB3 bulbs to increase their durability. But its not available now. Jules

Every vehicle with projector lamps that I have converted to HiD bulbs has never failed an MoT test, as long as they are aimed correctly (and the kit is of good quality) the beam aim and spread is as good as any OEM HiD set-up I’ve driven.

Just stick to normal power bulbs (35 watt) and don’t run the upgraded 55 watt HiD kits, absolutely no need. Regards

David

Lovely i6 has now gone, but not me......

Please let me know if anything in my post offends you, as I may wish to offend you again......
