Wading water leak

Has anyone had a problem with water gushing from behind the dash when wading?

I went through a short ford possibly as deep as half a metre and had water dump over my feet from behind the dash. The carpet was still wet a week later.

I may have gone into the water a bit quicker than ideal, i wasn't expecting it to be as deep.

The car has been at the dealer for a week and so far there has been no feedback as to the cause. I curious to know whether it is a design problem or a one-off fault with my car.

Unfortunately the road has since been closed so I couldn't try the loan car through the same water.

Would you say that the water was above the top of the wheels?

I've waded through water up to the top of the alloys, without any water leak, so definately a problem.

Give your dealer a call, they'll sort you out, then possibly sort your car as well Laughing

Go and check this as if you feel with your hands the intake comes out the bottom front of the airbox and then does a sharp uturn and goes towards the front windscreen along the top of the guard, maybe to the side vent?? I'm not sure.

I have had my air filter taken out, the plastic box it sits in and the pipe terminated just behind the passenger headlight, no sign of it going any further Smile

On a LRE the chap was telling me the side vents where the intake, as he had felt air coming out near them. Rolling Eyes Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I Hit a 2ft deep flood at 50+mph and it forced water in to the cabin up around the peddles-only happened on the driver side. not sure where it comes in from but i presume it was the pressure that forced it in and not the depth as i've since drove through a deep ford and no water came in.

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't walk through the water to check how deep it was but I'm sure it wouldn't have been much over the wheel centre. The car slowed noticeably which probably means the front bumper was in the water.

Seems like a fault with my car which I'm not very happy about but at least it seems that it isn't a design fault.
I'm told through Land Rover Australia that the car is repaired and ready for pick up, however the dealer hasn't had the courtesy to phone me yet. I'm not in a hurry, I'm driving his car in the meantime!

I've been through water about 600mm deep and everything remained pefectly dry inside.

This photo is from a video, so not brilliant quaility, I'm afraid.

If you hit the water too fast then water will be forced into the cabin through the seal around the bottom of the steering column, it requires a certain set of circumstances to do this replication of a pressure washer, water at up to 300mm a speeds in excess of 25mph say.
Normally the seal is good up to safe wading depths and sensible speeds. Keep smiling, what a great weather year we have had for F/L2 driving still pining for my 3dr, no removeable hardtop, no drop glass tailgate, no roof rack, no pockets everywhere to stow all that man kit

Furyan,

Trivett Alexandria.

The report when I picked the car up was that they had inspected the fire wall and sealed it. they claimed(!) to have found a missing grommet on the passenger side. That doesn't explain water on the driver's feet.

The steering column seal scenario fits the symptoms though. Maybe I should slow down when crossing water?

I've had water over the bonnet of my previous Disco 1 through attacking a rivers too fast or too deep. That exposed the need for new high tension leads. And lack of rear door seals. Maybe I shouldn't treat a Freelander like an old Disco!
