That's a ridiculous amount of time for replacing a turbo - even including strip down and removal of the old one it's no more than 4 hours from start to finish.

4 hours, that is impressive according to the warranty company they asked Land Rover main dealer and they said 6. There were issues getting things off/apart due to corroded bolts etc. But I admit to some extent I have been mugged off wont be using said garage again, (Well car is out off warranty now so DIY is the way ahead) If the turbo ever has faults again I shall remove it myself or try to find someone who can do it in 4 hours! |

Removing the entire manifold saves an awful lot of time in the first place. It's also a lot easier to attach the replacement when it's on the bench rather than in situ. |

It wasn't a Land Rover Specialist, bottom line is I had a bit of a nightmare due to the warranty that came with the car. Initial Land Rover specialist who confirmed my icarsoft fault diagnosos estimated 6 hours but refused to to the job in hand as he wanted to fit a new part to warrant his repair. The warranty company wanted if possible to fit a reconditioned unit. I then had to go to the approved warranty company garage to get the repair progressed. Despite being booked in and the car sitting there for 6 days they did not lift a finger on it due to being to busy/illness etc. So I removed it and went to another garage I had used previously. Where the turbo was removed and in the event a brand new turbo was sent back and fitted. For whatever reason seized bolts etc this took 10/11 hours. It may of been the first Freelander SD4 turbo they have done so pretty sure they could do it a lot quicker second time around.

Thanks for that, I had heard of the garage at Penryn and has great reviews, my local specialist is Tamar Country Cars just outside Liskeard, they were very good with my FFRR but yet to take the FL2 there.

Last Saturday I had the restricted performance message and red warning light. As I was lucky enough to have LR Assist I rang them and AA attended within the hour. His computer said P0046 turbo charger boost pressure and he was pretty sure it was a sticky actuator but still had to go the dealer. So off we went, A A arranging a replacement en route. He said you may just have to take what they give being a weekend. Don’t think so. At the dealers they had a one month old Jag ePace HSE, 1300 miles. A week later just got mine back fitted with a new turbo, washed, vacuumed, etc. £1500 but thankfully not from my pocket. The warranty has paid for itself already but hope I don’t need it again. Great service from the dealer. The Jaguar was very nice but not for me. Very happy to get back into the Freelander. |
