I could imagine it being true, as they spend a lot of time driving on private land, etc and feel there is no need to wear a seat belt in certain circumstances.

It is certainly true in as far as the alarm can be disabled on a seat by seat basis in the D3. That "Land Rover" need to be "instructed" is probably Daily Mail fiction. I am one of many people who need to do paperwork when out in my Land Rover and have an attache case on the passenger seat instead of a human most of the time. Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own!

Surely this should be titled 'Duke swerves to save head on collision after inexperienced driver turns right across his path.'

The damage seems to back up this version of events. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Agreed and it was illegal to drive on a provisional without a qualified driver in the front passenger seat, however in those days a qualified driver could have been one that had passed their test 5 minutes ago Laughing
I also understand that all royals will have taken a test and passed, I believe the driving test was introduced in 1935, therefore neither the Queen or the Duke would have been exempt due the being too young to hold a licence in 1935, her father and mother almost certainly didn't take a test as my mother never did and it showed Whistle my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

a provisional driving licence was issued so that you could learn to drive accompanied under instruction.

you had not passed the driving test yet and could not legally drive unaccompanied by a full licence holder.

A few years ago one of my sons had a provisional licence and had to drive a big John Deere tractor for a couple of miles to another farm. His elder sister who had passed her car driving test, was persuaded to accompany him in the cab even though she had no idea of how to drive the thing or even get it in gear. I guess that this was legal. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

Most probably not.

No requirement for accompanyment if vehicle has only one seat. Carrying passenger without seat would have been illegal. Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own!
